        • 1. Indian Republic Day – The 68th Republic Day of India saw the cultural diversity and military might of the nation in full display, as the indigenous fighter aircraft Tejas and the Black Cat NSG commandos made their debut. The theme of the event was Skill India and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.
          2. Indian Republic Day – The Chief Guest by tradition is a foreign dignitary. For 2017, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan (the first guest from any middle-east country) graced the occasion, and observed the parade in which 17 Indian states participated.
          3. Indian Republic Day – India became a republic (with a hand-written calligraphed constitution) on 26th January, 1950, and Dr.Rajendra Prasad was sworn in as the President. The tradition of President addressing the nation on 25th January evening has been maintained ever since.
          4. World politics – As President Donald Trump presses ahead with executive action (orders) on promises made during elections (which will need ratification by Congress and Senate later), he said “torture absolutely works” and “fire must be met with fire”.
          5. Society and culture – Civil Liberties groups are alarmed at the developments in America. They have promised to see Donald Trump and his administration in the courts, over actions which they deem a grave threat to the nation.
          6. Defence and military – President Pranab Mukherjee awarded the highest peacetime military award – the Ashok Chakra – posthumously to Havaldar Hangpan Dada (Assam) for displaying exemplary bravery valour while fighting terrorists in J and K in 2016, in which he was martyred. His widow Chasen Lowang received it.
          7. World economy – China has forced Pakistan to revert its decision on scaling down the capacity of a power plant in Balochistan region (from 1,320MW plant to 660MW) citing viability concerns. The Hub Power plant is being developed by Hub Power Company and China Power International Holding Company at a cost of $2.5 billion.
          8. People and personalities – Former Kingfisher boss Vijay Mallya has rejected allegations of impropriety regarding the SEBI ban on him in stock markets, saying KF was not his personal toy. The ex top bosses of IDBI have been arrested by the CBI recently for giving a huge loan of Rs.900 crores breaching protocol.
          9. Demonetisation – The RBI and government may open a small window for those who have failed to deposit old Rs.500 and Rs.1000 notes due to genuine reasons, but it will be for smaller amounts only.
          10. World politics – China has reportedly deployed the DF-41 intercontinental nuclear ballistic missiles in the northeastern province of Heilongjiang, close to Russian border, but apparently aimed at the USA. The DF-Dong Feng (Eastern Wind) is perhaps equipped with 10-12 weapons, and a range of upto 8,400 miles, capable of reaching New York City.

        • 1. भारतीय गणतंत्र दिवस - भारत के 68 वें गणतंत्र दिवस के उपलक्ष में देश की सांस्कृतिक विविधता और सैन्य शक्ति का संपूर्ण प्रदर्शन किया गया जिसमें स्वदेशी लड़ाकू विमान तेजस और ब्लैक कैट राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा समूह (एनएसजी) कमांडो ने पहली बार पदार्पण किया। इस कार्यक्रम की विषयवस्तु स्किल इंडिया और बेटी बचाओ बेटी पढाओ थी
          2. भारतीय गणतंत्र दिवस - परंपरागत रूप से कार्यक्रम के मुख्य अतिथि कोई प्रतिष्ठित विदेशी मेहमान होते हैं। वर्ष 2017 के कार्यक्रम के मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में अबू धाबी के युवराज शेख मोहम्मद बिन ज़ायेद अल नाह्यान (किसी मध्य-पूर्वी देश के पहले मुख्य अतिथि) ने कार्यक्रम को सुशोभित किया और उस परेड को देखा जिसमें देश के 17 राज्यों ने हिस्सा लिया
          3. भारतीय गणतंत्र दिवस -भारत (एक हस्तलिखित सुलिखित संविधान के साथ) 26 जनवरी 1950 को गणतंत्र बना और डॉ. राजेंद्र प्रसाद को देश के राष्ट्रपति के रूप में शपथ दिलाई गई। तब से लेकर अब तक दिनांक 25 जनवरी को गणतंत्र दिवस की पूर्व संध्या पर राष्ट्रपति द्वारा देश के नाम संबोधन की परंपरा को लगातार कायम रखा गया है
          4. विश्व राजनीति - अब जब राष्ट्रपति डॉनल्ड ट्रम्प अपने चुनाव-पूर्व किये गए वादों को पूरा करने के लिए कार्यकारी कार्यवाही (आदेशों) को दृढ़तापूर्वक आगे बढाते जा रहे हैं (जिन्हें बाद में सीनेट और कांग्रेस द्वारा अनुसमर्थित करना आवश्यक होगा), उन्होंने कहा कि “यातना निश्चित रूप से काम करती है” और “आग का मुकाबला आग से ही करना होगा”
          5. समाज और संस्कृति - नागरिक स्वतंत्रता समूह अमेरिका में जारी घटनाक्रम से चिंतित हैं। उन्होंने डॉनल्ड ट्रम्प और अमेरिकी प्रशासन को ऐसी कार्यवाहियों के लिए न्यायालय में घसीटने का वादा किया है जो उनकी दृष्टि से देश के लिए गंभीर खतरा हैं
          6. रक्षा और सेना - राष्ट्रपति प्रणब मुख़र्जी ने शांतिकाल का देश का सर्वोच्च सैन्य पुरस्कार – अशोक चक्र – हवलदार हंगपन दादा (असम) को वर्ष 2016 में जम्मू कश्मीर में आतंकवादियों के साथ मुकाबला करते समय उनके द्वारा प्रदर्शित किये गए अदम्य साहस के लिए, जिस दौरान वे शहीद हुए, मरणोपरांत प्रदान किया। उनकी ओर से यह पुरस्कार उनकी विधवा चसेन लोवांग ने स्वीकार किया
          7. विश्व अर्थव्यवस्था - चीन ने पाकिस्तान को बलूचिस्तान में एक विद्युत संयंत्र की क्षमता कम करने (1320 मेगावाट से 660 मेगावाट) के उसके निर्णय को व्यवहार्यता की चिंताओं का हवाला देते हुए वापस लेने के लिए मजबूर किया है। हब विद्युत संयंत्र 2.5 अरब डॉलर की लागत से हब विद्युत कंपनी और चाइना पॉवर होल्डिंग कंपनी द्वारा संयुक्त रूप से विकसित किया जा रहा है
          8. व्यक्ति और व्यक्तित्व - किंगफ़िशर के भूतपूर्व अध्यक्ष विजय माल्या ने शेयर बाजार में उनके द्वारा की गई अनियमितताओं के संबंध में भारतीय प्रतिभूति एवं विनिमय बोर्ड (सेबी) द्वारा लगाए गए आरोपों से यह कहते हुए इंकार किया है कि किंगफ़िशर उनका निजी खिलौना नहीं था। आईडीबीआई के पूर्व अध्यक्ष और अन्य वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों को प्रोटोकॉल का उल्लंघन करके किंगफ़िशर एयरलाइन्स को भारी-भरकम 900 करोड़ रुपये का ऋण देने के लिए हाल ही में केंद्रीय अन्वेषण ब्यूरो (सीबीआई) द्वारा गिरफ्तार किया गया है
          9. विमुद्रीकरण - जो लोग वास्तविक कारणों से 500 रुपये और 1000 रुपये के नोट समय-सीमा में जमा नहीं कर पाए थे उनके लिए आरबीआई और सरकार एक छोटी खिड़की खोल सकती है, परंतु यह सुविधा केवल छोटी रकमों के लिए ही उपलब्ध होगी
          10. विश्व राजनीति - चीन ने रुसी सीमा के निकट, परंतु प्रकट रूप से अमेरिका को निशाना बनाते हुए हेइलोंगजियांग प्रांत में कथित रूप से डीएफ-41 अंतरमहाद्वीपीय परमाणु बैलिस्टिक मिसाइलें तैनात की हैं। डीएफ-डाँग फेंग (पूर्वी हवा) संभवतः 10-12 हथियारों से सुसज्जित है और इसकी मारक क्षमता 8,400 मील है, जिसकी न्यू यॉर्क तक जाने की क्षमता है

        • 1. LAW AND SOCIETY – The Indian Republic Day represents the moment of enacting of the hand-written constitutions, and the swearing-in of a President as Head of State, which happened at 10:18 a.m. on January 26, 1950.
          2. Soon that day, Dr. Rajendra Prasad was sworn in as President of India at the Durbar Hall in President House. In India, the President is the Head of State, and the Prime Minister is the Head of Government.
          3. The Constitution was neither typed nor printed but handwritten and calligraphed both in English and Hindi. It had many beautiful and meaningful images from ancient India, including from the Bhagwad Gita, Buddhism, Ashoka’s reign etc., but all vanished in the years to come.
          4.The members of the Constituent Assembly (which created it) signed the handwritten document on January 24, 1950. The original copies are kept in the Parliament's library in helium-filled cases, safely for posterity.
          5. India’s motto is Satyamev Jayate, taken from the Mundaka Upanishad, Atharvaveda. It was Madan Mohan Malviya who selected it. Read the full motto here.
          6. From 1950 till 1954, the venues of the Republic Day “parade” were the Red Fort, National Stadium, Kingsway Camp and the Ramlila ground. From 1955, the Rajpath was chosen as the regular venue of a huge parade.
          7. Hence, the first Republic Day parade was held in 1955 at Rajpath, five years after India became a Republic.
          8. A foreign head of state or dignitary is always invited as the Chief Guest of the function. It is a diplomatic and strategic relation-building move. President Sukarno of Indonesia was the first chief guest at on January 26, 1950.
          9. India’s national anthem Jana Gana Mana was written first in Bengali by Rabindranath Tagore, and officially adopted as National Anthem of India in 1950 on January 24. It was first sung in the meeting of Indian National Congress, Calcutta on December 27, 1911.
          10. The National Anthem of India takes 52 seconds to sing or play. A 21 gun salute is given every Republic Day when the President of India unfurls the national flag. Republic Day celebrations last three days and concludes during the Beating Retreat ceremony, held on January 29 at Vijay Chowk with the performance of Indian Army, Air Force and Navy bands.

          4. संविधान सभा के सदस्यों ने (जिन्होंने इसका निर्माण किया था) इस हस्तलिखित दस्तावेज पर 24 जनवरी 1950 को हस्ताक्षर किये। इसकी मूल प्रतियाँ भावी पीढ़ियों के लिए संसद के पुस्तकालय में हीलियम से भरी पेटियों में सुरक्षित रखी गई हैं
          5. भारत का आदर्श वाक्य है सत्यमेव जयते, जो अथर्ववेद के मुण्डक उपनिषद से लिया गया है। इसका चयन पंडित मदन मोहन मालवीय द्वारा किया गया था। संपूर्ण आदर्श वाक्य यहाँ पढ़ें
          6. वर्ष 1950 से 1954 तक गणतंत्र दिवस की परेड का स्थान लाल किला हुआ करता था। वर्ष 1955 से इस विशाल परेड के लिए राजपथ का नियमित स्थान के रूप में चयन किया गया
          7. अतः राजपथ से गणतंत्र दिवस की पहली परेड भारत के गणतंत्र बनने के पांच वर्ष पश्चात वर्ष 1955 में आयोजित हुई थी
          8. इस समारोह के मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में हमेशा किसी विदेशी राष्ट्र प्रमुख या प्रतिष्ठित व्यक्ति को आमंत्रित किया जाता है। यह एक कूटनीतिक और संबंध निर्माण की दृष्टि से उठाया गया कदम है। 26 जनवरी 1950 की गणतंत्र दिवस की पहली परेड के मुख्य अतिथि इंडोनेशिया के राष्ट्रपति सुकार्णो थे
          9. भारत के राष्ट्र गान जन गण मन की रचना पहली बार रबीन्द्रनाथ टैगोर द्वारा बंगाली भाषा में की गई थी, और 24 जनवरी 1950 को इसे आधिकारिक रूप से भारत के राष्ट्र गान के रूप में अपनाया गया। सबसे पहली बार इसका गायन भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस की 27 दिसंबर 1911 को कलकत्ता में हुई बैठक के दौरान किया गया था
          10. भारत के राष्ट्र गान के गायन या वादन के लिए 52 सेकंड का समय लगता है। प्रत्येक गणतंत्र दिवस को जब राष्ट्रपति द्वारा तिरंगा झंडा फहराया जाता है तो उसे 21 तोपों की सलामी दी जाती है। गणतंत्र दिवस का कार्यक्रम तीन दिन तक चलता है और इसका समापन 29 जनवरी को विजय चौक में आयोजित बीटिंग रिट्रीट के दौरान भारतीय थलसेना, वायुसेना और नौसेना के वाद्यवृंदों (बैंड्स) द्वारा बजाए संगीत से होता है
