        • 1. Constitution and law –  In the ongoing Tamil Nadu political crisis former Supreme Court judge P.B. Sawant, who was part of the 9-judge bench that delivered judgment in the landmark S.R. Bommai case, said that TN Governor C.Vidyasagar Rao should act speedily to allay the impressions that he is partisan. Read our Bodhi on Executive – Judiciary deadlock
          2. Indian economy – Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that the Centre has provided adequate funds in the budget for rural infrastructural development in the areas of power, irrigation, roads, drinking water housing and MGNREGA.
          3. Demonetisation – FM Arun Jaitley reiterated that demonetization has achieved the objective of a larger and cleaner GDP. There is greater integration of informal economy with formal economy as a result of demonetization.
          4. World politics – The United States, Japan and South Korea requested an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss North Korea’s first missile launch since President Trump assumed office. North Korea has claimed that the test was successful.
          5. Defence and military – For the first time in the country, Indian Navy’s vessel INS Sarvekshak has been fitted with 18 sheets of solar panels. The 300-watt panels generate about 5.4kW power being used by the ship.
          6. Companies, products, services – Infosys founders’ unhappiness over matters of governance in the company may result in several changes in the board. This could prove to be a step towards resolution of the ongoing tussle in the company.
          7. Persons and personalities – Former finance minister P Chidambaram said that demonetization move by the government has slowed down the economy. Calling the move as the biggest scam of 2016, he said that the economy is likely to grow by 6 to 6.5 percent during the current fiscal. Read our comprehensive Bodhis on Demonetisation
          8. Indian politics – The rift between Shiv-Sena and the BJP is widening in Maharashtra ahead of the BMC polls. Party Chief Uddhav Thackeray hinted at withdrawing support to the Maharashtra government soon.
          9. World politics – Pakistan has sounded concerns over nuclearisation of Indian Ocean by India. Pakistan Foreign Affairs Advisor Sartaj Aziz said that this move by India was threatening peace and stability in the Indian Ocean region.
          10. Science and technology – Indian Space Research Organisatio (ISRO) will attempt a mega launch of 104 satellites in space in a single mission of February 15. ISRO has further plans to go to Venus for the first time and re-visit the Red Planet (Mars) very soon.

        • 1. संविधान और कानून - तमिलनाडु में जारी राजनीतिक संकट के बीच, सर्वोच्च न्यायालय के पूर्व न्यायाधीश पी. बी. सावंत, जो ऐतिहासिक एस. आर. बोम्मई मामले में फैसला सुनाने वाली 9-सदस्यीय पीठ के सदस्य रहे हैं, ने कहा है कि तमिलनाडु के राज्यपाल एस. विद्यासागर राव विद्यमान संकट पर त्वरित कार्यवाही करनी चाहिए ताकि यह संदेश नहीं जाए कि वे पक्षपातपूर्ण होकर कार्य कर रहे हैं।
          2. भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था - वित्तमंत्री अरुण जेटली ने कहा कि सरकार ने बजट में बिजली, सिंचाई, सड़कें, पेयजल, आवास और मनरेगा जैसे क्षेत्रों में ग्रामीण अधोसंरचना विकास के लिए पर्याप्त निधियां प्रदान की हैं।
          3. विमुद्रीकरण - वित्तमंत्री अरुण जेटली ने एक बार फिर से दोहराया है कि विमुद्रीकरण ने एक अधिक विशाल और अधिक साफ-सुथरी जीडीपी के उद्देश्य को प्राप्त किया है। विमुद्रीकरण के परिणामस्वरूप अनौपचारिक अर्थव्यवस्था का और औपचारिक अर्थव्यवस्था के साथ अधिक एकीकरण हुआ है।
          4. विश्व राजनीति - अमेरिका, जापान और दक्षिण कोरिया ने राष्ट्रपति ट्रम्प के सत्ता में आने के बाद उत्तर कोरिया द्वारा किये गए अपने पहले मिसाइल परीक्षण से उपजी स्थिति पर विचार करने के लिए संयुक्त राष्ट्र सुरक्षा परिषद की शीघ्र बैठक बुलाने का अनुरोध किया है।
          5. रक्षा और सेना - देश में पहली बार भारतीय नौसेना के जहाज आईएनएस सर्वेक्षक पर 18 सौर पैनल स्थापित किये गए हैं। ये 300 किलोवाट पैनल लगभग 5.4 किलोवाट बिजली का उत्पादन करते हैं जिनका उपयोग जहाज के विद्युतीकरण के लिए किया जा रहा है।
          6 कंपनियां, उत्पाद, सेवाएँ - कंपनी के व्यवस्थापन के मामले में इंफोसिस के संस्थापकों की नाराजी का परिणाम कंपनी के निदेशक मंडल में कुछ परिवर्तनों में हो सकता है। इसका परिणाम अंततः कंपनी में जारी संघर्ष के समाधान में हो सकता है।
          7. व्यक्ति और व्यक्तित्व - पूर्व वित्तमंत्री पी. चिदंबरम ने कहा कि विमुद्रीकरण के सरकार द्वारा लिए गए कदम ने भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था की गति को धीमा कर दिया है। सरकार के इस कदम को वर्ष 2016 का सबसे बड़ा घोटाला करार देते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि वर्तमान वित्त वर्ष के दौरान अर्थव्यवस्था के 6 से 6.5 प्रतिशत से बढ़ने की संभावना है।
          8. भारतीय राजनीति - मुंबई महानगरपालिका चुनावों के पूर्व महाराष्ट्र में शिवसेना और भारतीय जनता पार्टी के बीच रिश्ते और अधिक बिगड़ते जा रहे हैं। शिवसेना प्रमुख उद्धव ठाकरे ने महाराष्ट्र सरकार से शिवसेना द्वारा शीघ्र समर्थन वापस लेने के संकेत दिए हैं।
          9. विश्व राजनीति - पाकिस्तान ने भारत द्वारा हिंद महासागर के परमाणुकरण पर गहरी चिंता जताई है। पाकिस्तान के मामलों के सलाहकार सरताज अजीज ने कहा कि भारत के इस कदम से हिंद महासागर क्षेत्र की शांति और स्थिरता के लिए खतरा पैदा हो सकता है।
          10. विज्ञान एवं प्रौद्योगिकी - भारतीय अंतरिक्ष अनुसंधान संगठन (इसरो) 15 फरवरी को एक ही अभियान के तहत 104 उपग्रह अंतरिक्ष में प्रक्षेपित करने का प्रयास करने जा रहा है। इसके आगे इसरो की शुक्र ग्रह पर जाने की और मंगलग्रह पर दुबारा जाने की योजना भी है।

        • 1. In India, a Scheduled Bank is a bank that is included in the second schedule of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934. These banks are nationalized, private and foreign banks operating in India.
          2. A scheduled bank is eligible for loans from RBI at the Bank Rate.
          3. Cooperative banks need to fulfill certain criteria for inclusion in the second schedule. These include Demand and Time Liabilities (DTL) not less than Rs.750 crores continuously for one year, minimum 12% CRAR (Capital to Risk weighted Asset Ratio), net profit continuously for three years, NPAs less than 5% and compliance with CRR/SLR requirements.
          4. Sir Osborne Smith (1935-37) was the first governor of RBI.
          5. Originally, RBI’s main office was located in Kolkata, which was shifted to Mumbai in 1937.
          6. The RBI logo was inspired from the East India Company Double Mohur. So, our Central Bank is a proud bearer of a colonial legacy, reshaped to suit the modern times!
          7. The financial year of RBI is from July 1 to June 30. Dr. Manmohan Singh is the only Prime Minister to have served as the Governor of RBI. The post of Governor remains not entirely insulated from political needs and pressures, due to compulsions of a growing economy.           8. The first Woman to become RBI Deputy Governor was K. J. Udeshi. She was appointed in 2003. RBI’s track record in promoting women to the top rungs is as good or as bad as other top corporate in India.
          9. RBI was also the Central Bank for two other countries. It served as Pakistan’s Central Bank till June 1948, and the Central Bank of Burma (Myanmar) till April 1947. This was purely due to British colonial needs of the time.
          10. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) was established on the recommendation of Hilton Young Commission.

          4. सिर ओस्बोर्न स्मिथ (1935-37) आरबीआई के पहले गवर्नर थे।
          5. मूलतः आरबीआई का मुख्यालय कोलकाता में स्थित था, जिसे वर्ष 1937 में मुंबई स्थानांतरित किया गया।

          7. आरबीआई का वित्तीय वर्ष 1 जुलाई से 30 जून तक होता है। डॉ. मनमोहन सिंह ऐसे एकमात्र प्रधानमंत्री हैं जो आरबीआई के गवर्नर रह चुके हैं। एक बढ़ती हुई अर्थव्यवस्था की मजबूरियों के चलते गवर्नर (अध्यक्ष) का पद पूरी तरह से राजनीतिक जरूरतों और दबावों से मुक्त नहीं रह पाता।
          8. आरबीआई की डिप्टी गवर्नर बनने वाली पहली महिला श्रीमती के. जे. उदेशी हैं। उन्हें वर्ष 2003 में डिप्टी गवर्नर नियुक्त किया गया था। महिलाओं को शीर्ष पदों तक पदोन्नत करने में आर.बी.आई. का रिकॉर्ड भारत की अन्य बड़ी कंपनियों जितना ही अच्छा या बुरा है।
          9. आरबीआई दो अन्य देशों की केंद्रीय बैंक भी रही है। जून 1948 तक इसने पाकिस्तान की केंद्रीय बैंक के रूप में सेवाएँ दीं और अप्रैल 1947 तक यह बर्मा (म्यांमार) की केंद्रीय बैंक भी थी। ये पूरी तरह से उस वक्त की ब्रिटिश सरकार की आवश्यकताओं के अनुरूप ही था।
          10. भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक की स्थापना हिल्टन यंग समिति की सिफारिश पर की गई थी।
