    •  Highlights for 15-02-2017
        • 1. Science and technology – India’s Space Research Organisation (ISRO) created history by launching 104 satellites in a single mission from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. The launch includes 96 satellites from the US, 2 from India and one each from Israel, Kazakhastan, the Netherlands, Switzerland and UAE. The previous record was 37 satellites by Russia in 2014.           2. Indian politics – Voting for 67 seats in Uttar Pradesh and 69 seats in Uttarakhand began on Wednesday morning. These polls have acquired immense importance for the future on both the major political parties – BJP and Congress.
          3. Indian politics – In the ongoing political crisis in Tamil Nadu, new drama unfolded, when E K Palanisamy was elected as the new AIADMK legislature party leader. O Panneerselvam has been expelled from the party. Party General Secretary VK Sasikala wass convicted by the Supreme Court in the Disproportionate Assets case and sentenced for four years.
          4. World politics – A parliamentary delegation from Taiwan is visiting India as part of the renewed engagement between the two countries after the setting up of a parliamentary friendship forum in December2016. China has however, not welcomed the initiative.
          5. Indian economy – India Ratings and Research, an arm of the Fitch group has reduced India’s GDP growth forecast for 2016-17 by 110 basis point, from its initial estimates of 7.9% to 6.8%. The agency said that demonetization disrupted the economic activity significantly.

          6. Environment and pollution – India’s rapidly increasing pollution is a great cause of concern. According to the State of Global Air 2017 Report, India accounts for the highest number of deaths due to ozone pollution. As many as 2.54 lakh deaths occurred in 2015 due to exposure to ozone and its impact on lung diseases. Read our Bodhi on environment here
          7. World politics – India has been included in the latest regional conference on Afghanistan hosted by Russia. India and Afghanistan were not a part of the first such conference held in December 2016. India’s inclusion was made possible after NSA Ajit Doval’s recent visit to Moscow.
          8. World politics – Senate Finance Committee chairman Orion Hatch, who is a powerful Republican as well, indicated that President Trump may not weaken H-1B visas as they help the economy move forward. This may well be a respite for Indian IT companies.
          9. Indian economy – SBI Chairman Arundhati Bhattacharya favours the creation of a bad bank to sort out the problem of bad loans. She said that anything that would help in resolving the problem and bringing the bad loans into the standard category should be welcome.
          10. Indian economy – India has made it mandatory for global fighter aircraft makers like Lockheed Martin and Boeing to transfer technology and build jets with a local partner in India if they wish to bid for India’s single-engine fighter jet requirements.         • 1. विज्ञान एवं प्रौद्योगिकी - भारतीय अंतरिक्ष अनुसंधान संगठन (इसरो) ने आंध्र प्रदेश के श्रीहरिकोटा से 15 फरवरी को एक ही मिशन में 104 उपग्रहों का प्रक्षेपण करके इतिहास रच दिया है। इस प्रक्षेपण में 96 अमेरिकी उपग्रहों के साथ ही दो भारतीय उपग्रह और इजराइल, कजाखस्तान, नीदरलैंड, स्विट्ज़रलैंड और यूएई के एक-एक उपग्रह शामिल हैं। इससे पूर्व यह रिकॉर्ड रूस के नाम था जिसने 2014 में एक साथ 37 उपग्रह प्रक्षेपित किये थे। इस विषय पर विस्तृत बोधि पढ़ें यहाँ
          2. भारतीय राजनीति - उत्तरप्रदेश विधानसभा चुनावों के दूसरे चरण में 67 सीटों के लिए और उत्तराखंड की 69 सीटों के लिए बुधवार को मतदान शुरू हो गया है। वे चुनाव भाजपा और कांग्रेस, दोनों के लिए काफी महत्वपूर्ण माने जा रहे हैं।
          3. भारतीय राजनीति - तमिलनाडु में जारी राजनीतिक संकट के बीच एक नाटकीय घटनाक्रम में अन्ना द्रमुक पार्टी के विधायकों ने ई. के. पलानीसामी को विधानसभा में पार्टी के विधायक दल का नेता चुना है। पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री ओ. पन्नीरसेल्वम को पार्टी से निष्कासित किया गया है। इससे पूर्व सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने पार्टी की महासचिव वी. के शशिकला को आय से अधिक संपत्ति के मामले में दोषी करार देते हुए चार वर्ष की सजा दी है।
          4. विश्व राजनीति - ताइवान का एक संसदीय दल दोनों देशों के बीच दिसंबर 2016 में गठित संसदीय मैत्री मंच के तहत पुनः स्थापित संवाद के हिस्से के रूप में भारत के दौरे पर है। हालांकि चीन ने भारत की इस पहल पर नाराजी जताई है।
          5. भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था - फिच समूह की कंपनी इंडिया रेटिंग एंड रिसर्च ने वर्ष 2016-17 के लिए भारतीय जीडीपी वृद्धि के अनुमानों को पूर्व के अनुमान 7.9 प्रतिशत से 110 आधार अंक कम करके 6.8 प्रतिशत कर दिया है। एजेंसी ने कहा कि विमुद्रीकरण ने देश की आर्थिक गतिविधि को काफी प्रभावित किया है। विमुद्रीकरण विषय पर हमारे विडियो विश्लेषण देखें यहाँ
          6 पर्यावरण और प्रदूषण - भारत में तेजी से बढ़ता प्रदूषण गंभीर चिंता का विषय है। आते ऑफ़ ग्लोबल एयर 2017 रिपोर्ट के अनुसार भारत में ओजोन प्रदूषण से होने वाली मृत्युओं की संख्या विश्व में सबसे अधिक है। वर्ष 2015 में ओजोन प्रदूषण और इसके फेफड़ों पर होने वाले प्रभाव से होने वाली बीमारियों के कारण भारत में कुल 2.54 लाख लोगों की मृत्यु हुई। इस विषय पर विस्तृत बोधि पढ़ें यहाँ
          7. विश्व राजनीति - रूस की मेजबानी में अफ़ग़ानिस्तान पर होने वाले नवीनतम क्षेत्रीय सम्मेलन में भारत को भी शामिल किया गया है। इससे पूर्व दिसंबर में हुए पहले ऐसे क्षेत्रीय सम्मेलन में भारत और अफ़ग़ानिस्तान को शामिल नहीं किया गया था। भारत का सम्मेलन में समावेश राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा सलाहकार अजीत डोभाल की हाल की मास्को यात्रा के बाद संभव हो पाया है।
          8. विश्व राजनीति - अमेरिकी सीनेट की वित्तीय समिति के अध्यक्ष ओरियन स्टैच, जो एक शक्तिशाली रिपब्लिकन भी हैं, ने संकेत दिए हैं कि राष्ट्रपति डॉनल्ड ट्रम्प संभवतः एच-1 बी वीजा को कमजोर नहीं करेंगे क्योंकि वे अर्थव्यवस्था को बढाने में सहायक होते हैं। भारतीय सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी कंपनियों की दृष्टि से यह राहत भरी खबर हो सकती है।
          9. भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था - भारतीय स्टेट बैंक की अध्यक्ष अरुंधती भट्टाचार्य अनर्जक परिसंपत्तियों की समस्या के निराकरण के लिए एक अनर्जक परिसंपत्ति बैंक की स्थापना का समर्थन करती हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि ऐसा कोई भी उपाय जो अनर्जक परिसंपत्तियों की समस्या को सुलझाकर इन्हें उत्पादक ऋणों में परिवर्तित करने में सहायक हो, स्वागतयोग्य है।
          10. भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था - भारत ने लॉकहीड मार्टिन और बोइंग जैसी वैश्विक लड़ाकू विमान निर्माता कंपनियों के लिए यह अनिवार्यता की है कि यदि उन्हें भारत की एकल-इंजन लड़ाकू विमानों की आवश्यकताओं की पूर्ति की निविदा प्रक्रिया में शामिल होना है तो उन्हें प्रौद्योगिकी हस्तांतरण करना होगा और भारत में उत्पादन किसी भारतीय सहयोगी कंपनी के साथ भागीदारी में ही करना होगा। इस विषय पर विस्तृत बोधि पढ़ें यहाँ

        • 1. Otto Von Bismarck (1815-1898) was called the “Iron Chancellor”, who under his leadership unified Germany.
          2. Between 1862 and 1890, he effectively ruled first Prussia and then all of Germany.
          3. Bismarck was considered a master strategist who initiated decisive wars against Denmark, Austria and France and thereby united 39 independent German states under Prussian leadership.
          4. Although he was a conservative, Bismarck introduced progressive reforms, which included universal male suffrage and establishment of first welfare state.
          5. He cleverly used European rivalries to make Germany a world power, but in the process laid the foundation of both World Wars. In foreign affairs, Bismarck is considered a master of alliances and counter-alliances.
          6. His political leadership opposed the growth of democracy and encouraged the growth of a modern, industrial economy. According to him, politics is not an exact science, but an art of the possible.
          7. Kaiser Wilhelm II (King Willian II), the last German Emperor and King of Prussia (1888 - 1918), and the eldest grandchild of the British Queen Victoria, made Bismarck resign in 1890, at the age of 75. Wilhelm wanted a more direct aggressive style of working.
          8. For Bismarck, great questions of the day will not be settled by speeches and majority decisions but by iron and blood.
          9. Sardar Patel is called India’s Bismarck because he unified India by integrating princely states into the Indian federation.
          10. Bismarck died in 1898 at the age of 83 years, and just before that, he had predicted - “One day the great European War will come out of some damned foolish thing in the Balkans”. On 28 June 1914, Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand while visiting the Bosnian capital, Sarajevo, a local revolutionary Gavrilo Princip shot and killed Ferdinand and his wife Sophie. First World War began shortly thereafter.

          7. जर्मनी के अंतिम सम्राट और प्रशिया के सम्राट (1888-1918), और ब्रिटिश महारानी विक्टोरिया के सबसे बड़े पौत्र कैसर विल्हेम द्वितीय (सम्राट विलियम द्वितीय) ने वर्ष 1890 में बिस्मार्क को 75 वर्ष की आयु में त्यागपत्र देने के लिए मजबूर किया। विल्हेम एक अधिक प्रत्यक्ष आक्रामक कार्य शैली चाहते थे।
          8. बिस्मार्क के अनुसार तत्कालीन बड़े प्रश्नों का निर्णय भाषणों और बहुमत के निर्णय से नहीं होगा बल्कि उनका निर्णय लोहे और लहू से होगा।
          9. सरदार पटेल को भारत का बिस्मार्क कहा जाता है क्योंकि उन्होंने शाही रियासतों का विलय करके भारत को एकीकृत किया।
          10. बिस्मार्क का निधन 83 वर्ष की आयु में वर्ष 1998 में हुआ, और इससे ठीक पहले उन्होंने भविष्यवाणी की थी कि-“एक दिन महान यूरोपीय युद्ध बाल्कन में हुई किसी निरी मूर्खतापूर्ण घटना से बाहर निकलेगा” । 28 जून 1914 को ऑस्ट्रिया के आर्कड्यूक (राजकुमार) फ्रान्ज़ फर्डीनांड जब बोस्निया की राजधानी सारायेवो की यात्रा पर थे तब एक स्थानीय क्रांतिकारी गव्रिलो प्रिंसिप ने गोली मारकर फर्डीनांड और उनकी पत्नी सोफी की हत्या कर दी। इसके कुछ ही समय बाद प्रथम विश्व युद्ध शुरू हुआ          ।
