Fifth in a series of earthquakes this month, Nepal was hit by a 5.5 magnitude earthquake in the early hours of Monday. The other four have been in Japan, New Zealand and India. Its epicenter was the border of Ramechhap and Solukhumbu districts, about 131 km from Kathmandu. Details on the destruction and loss due to the earthquake are awaited. A major tragedy was averted in the Kamla Nehru Zoo of Indore when a young tigress Jamuna leapt out of her cage and came into the open, but was nabbed before any harm could be done. Possibly upset by the visitors’ constant stone-throwing and the loud music being played outside the zoo, and even a ballon thrown at her bursting in her face, the tigress gave the visitors a demonstration of brute animal force and jumped out of the 14 ft. high iron mesh. In its bid to arrest large, unaccounted cash deposits after demonetization, the government presented amendments to the Income Tax Amendment Bill in the Parliament on Monday. The government has proposed 30% tax, 10% penalty and 33% surcharge on the undisclosed income. The amendment also proposes that 25% of the undisclosed income to be deposited in the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Deposit scheme.
