The ruling BJP – Shiv Sena alliance took a big lead in the civic body elections held in Maharashtra on Sunday. The first electoral test for the BJP after the November 8 note ban was considered as people’s mandate on demonetisation. It seems to have gone its way, with huge support from the general public to the government’s move (opponents disagree, though). Results suggest that the BJP has made huge inroads in the rural areas which were so far considered as the traditional strongholds of the Congress and NCP. 3. BJP sweeps Gujarat civic body by-polls
Elections seem to be particularly good for the BJP post-demonetization (though critics disagree)! After their victory in Maharashtra, the party literally swept the civic body by-polls in its stronghold Gujarat state. It won 27 out of the 28 seats in Surat for which elections were held on Sunday. In Vapi municipality, the party has won 41 seats out of the 44 seats. Read Zee News

Tata Steel has given consent to sell its speciality steel business in England to Sanjeev Gupta’s metals company Liberty House. After its struggling business operations in England, the company had put the business up for sale earlier this year. 5. CBDT hopeful of achieving tax collection target
CBDT Chairman Sushil Chandra is confident of achieving the direct tax collection target for the current financial year. He said that the Income Tax Department was going ahead with 11.3% net growth and the tax collections so far have been good. The collection of direct taxes during the period April-October was 10.6% higher as compared to the same period during the last year. Read India Today

केंद्रीय प्रत्यक्ष कर बोर्ड (CBDT) के अध्यक्ष को उम्मीद है कि आयकर विभाग चालू वित्त वर्ष के लिए निर्धारित किये गए कर संग्रहण के लक्ष्य को हासिल कर लेगा। उन्होंने कहा कि आयकर विभाग वर्तमान में 11.3 प्रतिशत की शुद्ध वृद्धि के साथ बढ़ रहा है, और अब तक का कर संग्रहण संतोषजनक है। चालू वित्त वर्ष की अप्रैल-अक्टूबर की अवधि के दौरान संग्रहण पिछले वर्ष की इसी अवधि के संग्रहण से 10.6 प्रतिशत अधिक है। आईबीएन 7 देखें

Despite the total tea production in the country at 795.89 million kg remaining almost same as that of the previous year, India’s tea exports have witnessed a two per cent decline in the first six months of the current fiscal. Tea exports from the northern states of West Bengal and Assam declined marginally, there was a substantial decline in the exports from the southern states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. 8. Infosys eyes taking Payments Bank solutions global
India’s leading IT company Infosys has built a smaller version of its core banking solution 'Finacle', which it is currently offering to smaller banks and Payments Banks in India. Now Infosys plans to take this service to its global customers in the US and Europe. Infosys currently offers core banking solutions to major Indian banks like ICICI and Union Bank. The Supreme Court has directed Sahara Group Chairman Subrata Roy Sahara to deposit Rs.600 crore in the SEBI – Sahara refund account by February 6, 2017 to remain out of jail. The Court might consider appointing a receiver to auction the company’s properties to repay investors’ dues. The Court had earlier directed Sahara to deposit Rs. 1000 crore with SEBI, but later reduced the amount to Rs. 600 crore. Read The Hindu
