        • 1. Society and culture – The 14th Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas was inaugurated at Bengaluru on 08th January, Sunday. The PM explained to the audience how the government is striving to change brain drain to brain gain.
          2. Demonetisation – India’s chief statistician T.C.A. Anant (of the Central Statistical Office - CSO) has said that he does not have enough data right now to predict the impact of demonetization on Indian GDP.
          3. Demonetisation – The RBI is silent on the micro details of how much currency it has accumulated in demonetization drive. Skeptics are alleging that the demonetization drive has failed as Rs.15 lac crores has returned into the banks!
          4. Indian economy – Petrol pumps across India have threatened to stop accepting payments through cards to protest the sudden new levy of 1% charge by Banks as transaction charges. This goes counter to the entire cashless logic!
          5. Governance – The Government says that the 1% charge cannot be paid by either the consumers or the petroleum dealers, but it should be borne by the oil marketing companies. These new complexities of cashlessness are taking even the government by surprise.
          6. Indian politics – The Samajwadi Party’s dynastic fight (father versus son) in UP gets uglier with every passing day. Though visibly the majority is with the rising sun – the Son – the father is unable and unwilling to give up yet. Or it is all a show to destroy any anti-incumbency?
          7. World politics – President-elect Donald Trump tweeted that Russia and US must have friendly relations, so the large problems facing the world can be solved. He said he does not believe in the witch-hunt against Russia.
          8. Agriculture – Furious farmers plan to lay siege to Delhi in a repeat of their famous 2010 Bhopal act (Operation 20/10), demanding a complete farm loan waiver and implementation of the Swaminathan Commission report. Their leader is Shiv Kumar Sharma “Kakkaji”.
          9. Indian economy – The Public Account Committee (PAC), a Parliamentary Panel headed by Congress leader K V Thomas, has asked RBI Governor Urjit Patel to appear before it on 28th January to explain the entire process of demonetization and the procedures followed.
          10. People and personalities – The veteran, versatile and vivacious actor Om Puri passed away. Police have registered a case of accidental death as his body was found with a wound. The President of India condoled his death. Om Puri brought the rural aam aadmi into cinema mainstream. Naseeruddin Shah said Om Puri suffered a lot in his last years. Bodhi News pays its deepest condolences.

        • 1. समाज एवं संस्कृति – 14 वें प्रवासी भारतीय दिवस का उद्घाटन बेंगलुरु में रविवार दिनांक 8 जनवरी को किया गया। प्रधानमंत्री ने श्रोताओं को समझाया कि सरकार किस प्रकार प्रतिभा पलायन को प्रतिभा लाभ में परिवर्तित करने के लिए प्रयासरत है
          2. विमुद्रीकरण – भारत के मुख्य सांख्यिकीविद टी. सी. ए. अनंत (केंद्रीय सांख्यिकी कार्यालय के) ने कहा है कि भारतीय जीडीपी पर विमुद्रीकरण के होने वाले प्रभाव के विषय में उनके पास वर्तमान में पर्याप्त आंकडे उपलब्ध नहीं हैं
          3. विमुद्रीकरण – विमुद्रीकरण के अभियान के दौरान कितनी धनराशि का संग्रह हुआ है इसके विषय में सूक्ष्म विवरण पर आरबीआई खामोश है। संदेहवादी आरोप लगा रहे हैं कि विमुद्रीकरण अभियान असफल रहा है क्योंकि 15 लाख करोड़ की धनराशि बैंकों में वापस आ चुकी है
          4. भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था – देश भर के पेट्रोल पंपों ने बैंकों द्वारा लेनदेन शुल्क के रूप में अचानक 1 रुपये का शुल्क अधिरोपित करने के विरोध में कार्ड द्वारा भुगतान को स्वीकार करने से रोकने की धमकी दी है। यह संपूर्ण नकदविहीन के तर्क के पूर्णतः विरुद्ध है !
          5. शासन – सरकार का कहना है कि 1 प्रतिशत शुल्क का भुगतान न तो उपभोक्ताओं द्वारा और न ही पेट्रोल व्यापारियों द्वारा किया जा सकता है, बल्कि इसे तेल विपणन कंपनियों को ही वहन करना चाहिए। नकदविहीन की ये नई जतिक्तएं स्वयं सरकार को भी आश्चर्यचकित कर रही हैं
          6. भारतीय राजनीति – उत्तरप्रदेश की समाजवादी पार्टी की वंशवादी लड़ाई (पिता बनाम पुत्र) दिन प्रतिदिन और अधिक संकटमय होती जा रही है। हालांकि जाहिर तौर पर संख्या बल उगते सूर्य – बेटे - के साथ है परंतु पिता अभी भी हार मानने के लिए सक्षम भी नहीं हैं और तैयार भी नहीं हैं। या यह केवल सत्ता विरोधी लहर को नष्ट करने के लिए एक दिखावा मात्र है?
          7. विश्व राजनीति – नव-निर्वाचित अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डॉनल्ड ट्रम्प ने ट्वीट किया है कि रूस और अमेरिका के बीच दोस्ताना संबंध होने चाहिए, ताकि विश्व के समक्ष मौजूद बड़ी समस्याओं को सुलझाया जा सके। उन्होंने कहा है कि वे रूस के विरुद्ध संदिग्ध व्यक्तियों की खोज में विश्वास नहीं करते
          8. कृषि – अपने प्रसिद्ध भोपाल काण्ड (ऑपरेशन 20 / 10) को दोहराते हुए नाराज किसानों की दिल्ली में घेराव करने की योजना है, उनकी मांग है कि कृषि ऋणों को पूर्णतः माफ़ किया जाये और स्वामीनाथन आयोग की रेओप्र्ट को क्रियान्वित किया जाये। उनके नेता हैं शिव कुमार शर्मा “कक्काजी”
          9. भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था - लोक लेखा समिति, कांग्रेस नेता के वी थॉमस के नेतृत्व वाली संसदीय समिति, ने आरबीआई गवर्नर उर्जित पटेल को 28 जनवरी को उसके समक्ष उपस्थित होने और विमुद्रीकरण की संपूर्ण प्रक्रिया को समझाने, और इसके लिए अपनाई गई प्रक्रियाओं को समझाने के लिए कहा है
          10. व्यक्ति एवं व्यक्तित्व – प्रसिद्ध, बहुमुखी और जिंदादिल अभिनेता ओम पुरी का निधन हो गया। पुलिस ने दुर्घटना मृत्यु का मामला दर्ज किया है क्योंकि उनके शरीर पर चोट का निशान पाया गया था। भारत के राष्ट्रपति ने उनके निधन पर शोक व्यक्त किया है। ओम पुरी ने ग्रामीण आम आदमी को फिल्मों की मुख्यधारा में शामिल किया। नसीरुद्दीन शाह ने कहा है कि अपने अंतिम वर्षों में ओम पुरी ने काफी कष्ट झेले। बोधि समाचार अपनी हार्दिक संवेदनाएं व्यक्त करता है

        • 1. Cashless transactions are now crucial to sectors like petroleum retail. India has 56,190 petrol pumps (including private oil companies). ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank account for 60% of card swipe machines deployed at 52,000 petrol pumps out of the 53,842 public sector fuel retail outlets.
          2. The RBI made a transition from being a shareholder’s institution to a state-owned organization, in the tenure of the first Indian Governor Shri C.D. Deshmukh. He was the third governor of RBI.
          3. The only Prime Minister of India to have also been a Governor of the RBI is Dr. Manmohan Singh (Governor from 1982-1985). Or shall we say the only governor to hold the PM’s post?
          4. The RBI has also played the role of central bank for Pakistan till June 1948, and for Burma (Myanmar) till April 1947. Lord Mountbatten was in a hurry to leave India, for Burma, in those days.
          5. The current logo of the RBI is inspired from the Double Mohur design used by the East India Company.
          6. The first woman to become a deputy governor of RBI is K. J. Udeshi, appointed in 2003.
          7. The Union Budget of India is the Annual financial statement as per Article 112 of the Constitution of India. The budget is presented through (a) the Finance bill and (b) the Appropriation bill, and it has to be passed by both Houses of the Parliament to be effective.
          8. When a full Budget in a normal functioning year of a government is not possible (due to elections, say), an Interim Budget or a 'Vote on Account' is presented.
          9. A 'Vote on Account' deals with the expenditure side of the government's budget only.
          10. An Interim Budget is a complete set of accounts, including both expenditure and receipts. It gives the complete financial statement. It usually has no major policy statements or intentions due to impending changes.
        • 1. अब पेट्रोलियम खुदरा जैसे क्षेत्रों के लिए नकदविहीन लेनदेन महत्वपूर्ण हैं। भारत में 56,190 पेट्रोल पंप हैं (निजी तेल कंपनियों सहित) । सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र के 53,842 खुदरा पेट्रोल पंपों में से 52,000 पेट्रोल पंपों पर कार्ड स्वाइप मशीनों की तैनाती में आईसीआईसीआई बैंक और एचडीएफसी बैंक की हिस्सेदारी 60 प्रतिशत है
          2. आरबीआई के पहले भारतीय गवर्नर श्री सी. डी. देशमुख के कार्यकाल के दौरान आरबीआई ने एक अंशभाग धारकों की संस्था से एक राज्य के स्वामित्व वाले संगठन के रूप में संक्रमण किया

          7. भारत का केंद्रीय बजट संविधान के अनुच्छेद 112 के अनुसार वार्षिक वित्तीय विवरण है। बजट का प्रस्तुतीकरण (ए) एक वित्त विधेयक के रूप में और (बी) एक विनियोग विधेयक के रूप में किया जाता है, और इसे प्रभावशाली होने के लिए संसद  के दोनों सदनों द्वारा इसे पारित करना आवश्यक है
          8. जब सरकार के सामान्य कार्यकाल के दौरान एक सामान्य बजट प्रस्तुत करना संभव नहीं होता है (जैसे चुनाव के कारण) तो एक अंतरिम बजट या लेखानुदान प्रस्तुत किया जाता है
          9. लेखानुदान केवल सरकार के व्यय पक्ष से ही संबंधित होता है
          10. अंतरिम बजट विवरणों का एक संपूर्ण समुच्चय होता है, जिसमें व्यय और प्राप्तियां दोनों शामिल होती हैं। यह एक संपूर्ण वित्तीय विवरण देता है। आसन्न परिवर्तन के कारण इसमें आमतौर पर कोई प्रमुख नीतिगत विवरण या इरादों का विवरण नहीं होता
