        • 1. Defence and Military - The BSF jawan (Tej Bahaur Yadav) who uploaded videos on social media of "poor quality food" refuses to take them down. The Force says he is an alcoholic. The Home Minister has ordered an enquiry into the allegations.
          2. World politics - Donand Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner will be senior adviser in the White House. Trump may be on dicey ground in choosing him, say analysts.
          3. Corporates - Ratan Tata discloses in his affidavit that he had asked Cyrus Mistry to resign personally, before taking any action, as he saw no perceptible improvement in the functioning under his Chairmanship.
          4. Indian politics - Congress Vice-President is back in India after a 10-day long New Year vacation in Europe. He is again expected to pick up the fight for poor and farmers, post-demonetisation!
          5. World politics - Iran's former President, and a pragmatic voice in a political system riddled with factionalism, Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani (82 years) passed away on Sunday. Some gulf states send condolences.
          6. Demonetisation - The BHIM App launched by Prime Minister Modi has been downloaded more than 10 million (1 crore) times. PM Modi expressed happiness and said he believes India is firmly on its way to becoming a digital nation.
          7. Indian economy - The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) is targetting April 1 rollout of GST, and has asked assessees to migrate to the new tax payment portal by January 31, by obtaining a valid PAN number first. Web-portal www.aces.gov.in is to be used for it.
          8. Demoetisation - The Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presented rising tax collection numbers to junk the theory that Indian economy has suffered post-noteban. He also said that while the PM was thinking of the next generation, the VP of Congress Rahul Gandhi was thinking only of the next session!
          9. Constitution and law - India's Election Commission has sent a notice to Sakshi Maharaj of BJP to explain his controversial statement "4 wives and 40 children", considered inflammatory against the Muslims in Uttar Pradesh.
          10. World economy - The iconic iPhone of Apple turned 10 on 09 January 2017. Exactly ten years ago, the pathbreaking device was launched by Steve Jobs.

        • १. रक्षा और सैन्य - जिस बीएसएफ जवान ने (तेज बहादुर यादव) सोशल मीडिया पर घटिया खाने के विडियो डाले थे, उसने उन्हें हटाने से इनकार कर दिया है। बल का कहना है कि वो शराब का आदी है. गृह मंत्री ने मामले की जांच के आदेश दिए हैं।
          २. विश्व राजनीति - डॉनल्ड ट्रम्प ने अपने दामाद जेरेड कुशनर को वाइट हाउस (राष्ट्रपति भवन) में वरिष्ठ सलाहकार नियुक्त किया है। विश्लेषकों का मानना है कि ये फिसलन भरा निर्णय हो सकता है।
          ३. निगमित - रतन टाटा ने अपने शपथ-पत्र (एफिडेविट) में कहा है कि कार्यवाही करने से पूर्व उन्होंने साइरस मिस्री से त्यागपत्र देने को कहा था, चूंकि उनके अध्यक्षीय काल में कोई सुधार होते नहीं दिख रहा था।
          ४. भारतीय राजनीति - कांग्रेस उपाध्यक्ष श्री राहुल गाँधी नव वर्ष के अपने १०-दिवसीय यूरोप छुट्टियों के दौरे से लौट आये हैं। उम्मीद है कि नोटबंदी के बाद गरीबों और किसानों की तकलीफों पर अब वे पुनः सरकार को घेरेंगे!
          ५. विश्व राजनीति - ईरान के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति और एक बंटे हुए राजनीतिक माहौल में व्यवहारिक राह पर चलने वाले नेता, श्री अकबर हाशेमी रफसंजानी (८२ वर्ष) का निधन रविवार को हो गया। कुछ कड़ी देशों ने अपने शोक सन्देश भेजे।
          ६. विमुद्रीकरण - प्रधानमंत्री द्वारा लांच किये गए भीम ऍप के १ करोड़ डाउनलोड हो चुके हैं। मोदी जी ने इसपर प्रसन्नता जताते हुए विश्वास व्यक्त किया कि भारत तेज़ी से डिजिटल हो रहा है।
          ७. भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था - केंद्रीय उत्पाद एवं सीमा शुल्क बोर्ड (सीबीईसी) ने १ अप्रैल के वस्तु और सेवा कर तिथि को तय मानते हुए, सभे करदाताओं को नए कर भुगतान पोर्टल पर ३१ जनवरी तक आ जाने को कहा है, और सबसे पहले एक मान्य पैन नंबर लेना होगा। इस हेतु वेबपोर्टल www.aces.gov.in का इस्तेमाल करना होगा।
          ८. विमुद्रीकरण - वित्तमंत्री अरुण जेटली ने बढ़ते हुए कर संग्रहण आकंड़े पेश करते हुए कहा है कि भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था को नोटबंदी से कोई नुकसान नहीं हुआ है। उन्होंने ये भी कहा कि एक ओर प्रधानमंत्री अगली पीढ़ी का सोचते हैं, और वहीँ राहुल गाँधी अगले सत्र की सोचते हैं!
          ९. संविधान और विधि - भारत के चुनाव आयोग ने भाजपा के साक्षी महाराज को एक नोटिस भेजकर पूछा है कि वे अपनी विवादित बयां "४ बीवियां और ४० बच्चे" समझाएं, जिसे उत्तर प्रदेश के मुसलमान के खिलाफ माना जा रहा है।
          १०. विश्व अर्थव्यवस्था - एप्पल का प्रसिद्ध आई-फ़ोन ०९ जनवरी २०१७ को पूरे १० वर्ष का हो गया। ठीक दस वर्ष पूर्व, इस नवाचारी डिवाइस को स्टीव जॉब्स ने पेश किया था।

        • 1. NATO is a military alliance to safeguard the freedom and security of its members. It promotes democratic values and encourages consultation to build trust and prevent conflict.
          2. NATO was founded under the “North Atlantic Treaty” popularly called the “Washington Treaty”, on 4 April 1949.
          3. NATO’s military operations are carried out under Article 5 of the Washington Treaty - NATO’s founding treaty - or under a UN mandate, alone or in cooperation with other countries and international organizations.
          4. NATO currently has 28 member nations (Year of joining in brackets) – ALBANIA (2009), BELGIUM (1949), BULGARIA (2004), CANADA (1949), CROATIA (2009), CZECH REPUBLIC (1999), DENMARK (1949), ESTONIA (2004), FRANCE (1949), GERMANY (1955), GREECE (1952), HUNGARY (1999), ICELAND (1949), ITALY (1949), LATVIA (2004), LITHUANIA (2004), LUXEMBOURG (1949), NETHERLANDS (1949), NORWAY (1949), POLAND (1999), PORTUGAL (1949), ROMANIA (2004), SLOVAKIA (2004), SLOVENIA (2004), SPAIN (1982), TURKEY (1952), THE UNITED KINGDOM (1949), THE UNITED STATES (1949)
          5. The Baltic States – Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania – joined in 2004 sparking a struggle with the Russian Federation which though this is an attack on its regional influence. The Ukraine crisis followed.
          6. The Secretary General of NATO is Jens Stoltenberg, and the North Atlantic Council is the topmost political decision-making body inside NATO.
          7. The present operations are – (1) Resolute Support Mission, Afghanistan, (2) Kosovo Force (KFOR), (3) Operation Active Endeavour in the Mediterranean, (4) Operation Ocean Shield in the Gulf of Aden and off the Horn of Africa, (5) Assistance to the African Union, (6) Military HQ in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
          8. NATO also has global partners – Afghanistan, Australia, Iraq, Japan, Mongolia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Republic of Korea.
          9. NATO also partners international organizations like the United Nations, EU, and Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.
          10. The Warsaw Pact (formally the Treaty of Friendship, Co-operation, and Mutual Assistance) was created in reaction to integration of West Germany into NATO. It was a collective defense treaty among the Soviet Union and seven other Soviet satellite states in Central and Eastern Europe in existence during the Cold War (1955 – 1991).
        • 1. नाटो अपने सदस्यों की स्वतंत्रता और सुरक्षा की रक्षा के लिए बना एक सैन्य गठबंधन है। यह लोकतांत्रिक मूल्यों का संवर्धन करता है और विश्वास का निर्माण करने और संघर्ष को टालने के लिए यह सलाह-मशविरे को प्रोत्साहित करता है
          2. नाटो की स्थापना 4 अप्रैल 1949 को “उत्तर अटलांटिक संधि”, जिसका प्रचलित नाम “वाशिंगटन संधि” है, के तहत हुई थी
          3. नाटो के सैन्य संचालन वाशिंगटन संधि – जो नाटो की स्थापना संधि है - के अनुच्छेद 5 के तहत, या एक संयुक्त राष्ट्र अधिदेश के तहत या तो अकेले या अन्य देशों और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय संगठनों के सहयोग से संचालित किये जाते हैं

          5. बाल्टिक राज्य – एस्तोनिया, लातविया, लिथुआनिया – वर्ष 2004 में शामिल हुए जिसके कारण रुसी संघराज्य के साथ उनके संघर्ष की शुरुआत हुई, जिसे लगता था कि यह उसके क्षेत्रीय प्रभाव पर अतिक्रमण है। इसके परिणामस्वरूप यूक्रेन का संकट शुरू हुआ
          6. नाटो के महा सचिव जेन्स स्टोलनबर्ग हैं, और नाटो के अन्दर निर्णय करने वाला सर्वोच्च निकाय उत्तर अटलांटिक परिषद है
          7. इसके वर्तमान संचालन हैं – (1) अफगानिस्तान का दृढ़ समर्थन मिशन, (2) कोसोवो बल (केएफओआर), (3) भूमध्य सागर में सक्रिय प्रयास, (4) अदन की खाड़ी और हॉर्न ऑफ़ अफ्रीका में ऑपरेशन महासागरीय कवच, (5) अफ़्रीकी संघ को सहायता, (6) भूतपूर्व युगोस्लाव गणराज्य मकदूनिया के बोस्निया और हर्जेगोविना में सैन्य मुख्यालय
          8. नाटो के वैश्विक भागीदार भी हैं – अफगानिस्तान, ऑस्ट्रेलिया, इराक, जापान, मंगोलिया, न्यूज़ीलैण्ड, पाकिस्तान, कोरिया गणराज्य
          9. नाटो संयुक्र राष्ट्र, यूरोपीय संघ, और यूरोप में सुरक्षा और सहयोग संगठन जैसे अंतर्राष्ट्रीय संगठनों के साथ भागीदारी भी करता है
          10. वॉरसॉ संधि (पूर्व की मित्रता, सहयोग और परस्पर सहायता संधि) का निर्माण जर्मनी के नाटो में एकीकरण की प्रतिक्रियास्वरूप किया गया था। यह सोवियत संघ और शीत युद्ध (1955-1991) के दौरान मध्य एवं पूर्वी यूरोप में मौजूद सात अन्य सोवियत उपग्रह राज्यों की संयुक्त रक्षा संधि थी
