The Rajasthan government has filed a special leave petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court against the acquittal of Bollywood actor Salman Khan in the Chinkara poaching case. The government has contended in the court that the actor be ordered to surrender and asked to go back to jail in the 18-year case. The hearing on the SLP is likely to come up after the Diwali vacations.

राजस्थान सरकार ने 18 वर्ष पुराने चिंकारा शिकार मामले में बॉलीवुड अभिनेता सलमान खान की रिहाई के विरुद्ध उच्चतम न्यायालय में विशेष अनुमति याचिका दायर की है। सरकार ने अपनी अपील में न्यायालय से आग्रह किया है कि अभिनेता को आत्मसमर्पण करने का आदेश दिया जाए और उसे वापस जेल भेजा जाए। सरकार की याचिका पर दिवाली के अवकाश के बाद सुनवाई होने की संभावना है।

SBI blocks over six lakh debit cards due to security breach
In one of the biggest card replacements, the country’s biggest bank has blocked the debit cards of more than six lakh of its customers due to a malware-related security breach. A statement issued by the bank said that these cards would be re-issued to the customers to avoid any compromise of customer data. It is reported that some of the ATMs have been affected by a malware.

Russia to lease another nuclear attack submarine to India
After the quiet commissioning of the INS Arihant, Russia has agreed to lease another nuclear attack submarine of the Akula class to India. The submarine will enter Indian waters in 2020-21. Though the Akula class submarine is nuclear powered, but is armed with conventional land attack missiles.

The decision on GST rates was put off to next month as the meeting between the Center and the states could not reach a consensus on the issue. However, the Centre and states converged towards a consensus on levying a cess on luxury and sin goods in addition to the highest rate of tax in the new regime.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India, Shri Naseem Zaidi has said that the idea of compulsory voting has not been found very practical in India. But he reiterated that the benefits of compulsory voting and education-led mobilisation of voters are issues would be worth examining. The government has already said in the Parliament that it is difficult to bring a law that punishes people who do not vote.

India, Myanmar sign three agreements
Myanmar’s State Counsellor and foreign minister Aung San Suu Kyi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi held delegation level discussions on various issues and bilateral relations between the two countries. Three agreements in the fields of cooperation in power sector, banking supervision and academic and professional building programmes were also signed.
