India outclassed China 9-0 to stay in the hunt for the top spot in the round-robin league competition of the fourth Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament at Kuantan (state capital of Pahang, Malaysia) on Tuesday. Akashdeep Singh, Yousuf Affan and Jasjit Singh Kumar scored two goals each as India beat the Chinese defence easily.

Hindutva verdict: Supreme Court refuses to go into issue of Hinduism
Religion remains a potent weapon in Indian politics, both for politicians and for social activists. The Supreme Court on Tuesday while hearing a petition said that it would not consider a 1995 judgement in which the court defined Hindutva as a ‘way of life and not a religion.’ The statement by Supreme Court came on a plea filed by activist Teesta Setalvad who had appealed at the top court to reconsider its judgement passed in 1995.

Surprisingly, India has moved up only one rank on the World Bank’s ease of doing business ranking (EODB) this year, a disappointing result for the Narendra Modi government which tried hard through many new initiatives and had set a target to break into the top 50 in the league. India is ranked 130 out of 190 countries in World Bank Group’s annual report on the ease of doing business, ‘Doing Business 2017’.

Ms. Mayawati advised the PM to leave the issue of triple talaq to be resolved by the Muslim community through consensus.

HDFC Bank net profit at Rs 3,455 cr, up 20% in Q2
HDFC Bank - country's second largest private sector lender - has reported a 20.4 per cent growth in net profit to Rs 3,455 crore in the July-September quarter, helped by higher net interest income and lower provisions. This was in line with Bloomberg estimates of Rs 3,456 crore. Paresh Sukthankar, deputy managing director of HDFC Bank explained that the growth in retail loans was driven by auto and personal loans.

निजी क्षेत्र के एचडीएफसी बैंक का 30 सितंबर को समाप्त दूसरी तिमाही का शुद्ध लाभ 20.4 प्रतिशत बढ़कर 3,455.3 करोड़ रुपये पर पहुंच गया। इससे पिछले वित्त वर्ष की इसी तिमाही में बैंक ने 2,869.5 करोड़ रुपये का शुद्ध लाभ कमाया था। तिमाही के दौरान बैंक की कुल आय बढ़कर 19,970.9 करोड़ रुपये पर पहुंच गई, जो इससे पिछले वित्त वर्ष की समान तिमाही में 17,324.3 करोड़ रुपये थी।
