In a dramatic development that surprised corporates and others, Cyrus Mistry (48) was sacked as Chairman of Tata Group. He was replaced by retired chairman Ratan Tata (78), who will be interim Chairman for four months. The announcement came after the company’s board met and decided to replace Mistry, due to a string of mis-happenings and events. The board has constituted a five-member search committee which will choose his successor in four months. This event may lead to a serious legal battle now.

देश के उद्योग जगत के प्रमुख उद्योग समूह, टाटा समूह ने इसके अध्यक्ष ४८ वर्षीय सायरस मिस्त्री को अध्यक्ष पद से हटा दिया है। कंपनी के निदेशक मंडल की सोमवार को हुई बैठक के बाद इस आशय की घोषणा की गई। उनके स्थान पर ७८ वर्षीय रतन टाटा को अगले चार महीनों के लिए अंतरिम अध्यक्ष बनाया गया है। कंपनी के इस कदम का उद्योग जगत और अन्य क्षेत्रों में आश्चर्य व्यक्त किया जा रहा है। इस घटना की परिणति एक गंभीर कानूनी लड़ाई में होने की सम्भावना है।

No solution in sight in Samajwadi Party family feud
Despite reconciliation efforts by SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, the deep dispute between UP CM Akhilesh Yadav and his uncle Shivpal Yadav has not been resolved. Although the two leaders embraced each other during the party meeting at the instructions of the party chief, relations between the two still remain strained. Open allegations were thrown at each other from a public platform, and the generational shift in the party seems all but stuck. It is interesting to note the same story unfolding in two entirely different domains today - the Tata Group where the generational shift is now all but aborted, and the Samajwadi Party where it is stuck. Truly said, rarely has major change ever been smooth!

Financial companies, Reliance Industries save the day for India Inc. in Q2
The third quarter has started on a positive note for corporate India. The combined net profit of 131 companies who have declared their results for the second quarter, was up 9.5 % year-on-year. This is an improvement over the 6.9 % year-on-year growth of the previous quarter.

Terrorist attack on Police Training Academy in Quetta, more than 40 killed
Militants attacked a Police Training Centre in Quetta, capital of Balochistan, Pakistan late on Monday night. The overnight attack has left 44 people besides three militants dead, and 118 people injured, making it one of the deadliest strikes in the country this year. Attackers reportedly entered the hostels of the training centre from the front gate and opened fire, possibly also taking some police personnel hostage and injuring 118 cadets.

पाकिस्तान के अशांत बलूचिस्तान प्रांत की राजधानी क्वेटा की पुलिस अकादमी में सोमवार रात को हुए आतंकवादी हमले में तीन आतंकवादियों सहित चालीस से अधिक लोगों की मौत और 118 लोगों के घायल होने की खबर है। यह पाकिस्तान में इस साल हुआ सबसे बड़ा आतंकी हमला है। हमलावर पुलिस अकादमी के हॉस्टल में घुसे और उन्होंने गोलियां चलानी शुरू कर दी। समझा जाता है कि हमलावरों ने कुछ पुलिस कर्मियों को बंधक भी बनाया है।

It seems that Pakistan has taken the US warning of supporting select terror groups seriously. Authorities in Pakistan have frozen bank accounts with more than Rs 400 million of over 5,100 terror suspects. Masood Azhar is among the suspects whose accounts were frozen by the State Bank of Pakistan. The Interior Ministry of Pakistan has reportedly directed the bank to take the said action.

The Supreme Court on Monday asked RBI as to why the names of 57 large borrowers, who have defaulted on bank loans worth a whopping Rs 85,000 crore should not be made public. A bench headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur, after perusing a report submitted by RBI in a sealed cover, said individually, these borrowers had taken loans of Rs 500 crore or above.

प्रधान न्यायाधीश टी एस ठाकुर की अगुवाई वाली पीठ ने इस बात पर आश्चर्य जताया कि जिन लोगों का बैंकिंग सिस्टम पर 500 करोड़ रुपये से अधिक बकाया है उनके बारे में जानकारी पब्लिक को क्यों नहीं दी जानी चाहिए। जानकारी छिपाकर रखने के लिए न्यायालय ने आरबीआई से जवाब माँगा है। प्रधान न्यायाधीश का कहना था कि उधारकर्ता शिकायत कर सकते हैं, परंतु आरबीआई को शिकायत क्यों है? डिफाल्टर्स से अर्थ है जो अपने ऋण नहीं चुका पा रहे हैं, अर्थात ऋणशोधनाक्षम।

Women will be allowed inside the inner sanctum of Mumbai’s Haji Ali Dargah in a month’s time, the shrine’s trust told the Supreme Court on Monday, a landmark victory for female worshippers still barred from India’s most holy places. The development is likely to bolster a larger campaign for allowing women entry into shrines and strike down what activists say is regressive gender bias among religious leaders. Earlier this year, activist Trupti Desai and hundreds of women entered the holy Shani temple in Maharashtra. It must be noted that a few years ago, there was no such restrictions!

हाजी अली दरगाह में मजार तक महिलाओं के प्रवेश को मंजूरी दे दी गई है। सोमवार को दरगाह ट्रस्ट ने इसको लेकर सुप्रीम कोर्ट से इन्फ्रास्ट्रक्चर में बदलाव के लिए 4 हफ्ते का वक्त मांगा। ट्रस्ट ने कहा- हम दरगाह में महिलाओं का प्रवेश चाहते हैं। चीफ जस्टिस टीएस ठाकुर, जस्टिस डीवाई चंद्रचूड़ और जस्टिस एल.नागेश्वर राव की बेंच ने ट्रस्ट को बदलाव कराने के लिए मांगे वक्त को मंजूरी दे दी है। ये जानने योग्य तथ्य है कि कुछ वर्ष पूर्व ऐसी कोई बंदिश नहीं थी।

The Justice Lodha committee put the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on notice on Monday and said it would not scrutinize the global tender for the multi-billion dollar IPL rights unless the board undertook to fully implement Supreme Court-ordered reforms in cricket administration. BCCI cannot go ahead with the global tender without a green signal from Lodha committee. The board is expecting to garner $3-4 billion for the next 10 years through the global tender. It now seems that BCCI, which has through the years acted as the owner of the game rather than its trustee, is nearing the endgame!

बीसीसीआई को 21 अक्टूबर को दिया गया सुप्रीम कोर्ट का फैसला जल्द लागू करना होगा। इससे संबंधित पत्र (लेटर) लोढ़ा पैनल को सौंपे बगैर उसे आईपीएल के टेंडर की प्रक्रिया शुरू नहीं करने दी जाएगी। यह बात जस्टिस लोढ़ा कमेटी ने कही है। इसके बाद सोमवार देर रात बीसीसीआई ने लोढ़ा कमेटी से कहा कि वह यह लेटर जल्द ही भेज देगा। प्रसारण के अधिकारों के लिए टेंडर होना थे। अब ये साफ़ हो चला है की बीसीसीआई, जिसने कई वर्षों तक एक न्यासी की तरह नहीं वरन एक मालिक की तरह इस खेल पर राज किया है, अब अपनी अंतिम पारी खेल रही है!
