Any deposit of cash above Rs.2.5 lakh during the 50-day window would attract tax and in addition, a penalty of 200% on the depositor, in case an income mismatch is observed. The government would receive reports on all cash deposited above Rs.2.5 lakh during November 10 and December 30. The Tax department will match the deposits with the income tax returns of the concerned depositor and those found guilty of tax evasion will be dealt with severely with penal provisions. Read TOI

In one of the most fiercely contested presidential elections in the history of the United States, Republican Party candidate Donald Trump defeated Democrat Hillary Clinton to become the new President of the world’s most powerful nation. When most political analysts were predicting a victory for Hillary, Trump’s victory came as a big surprise. Official declaration to this effect will be made on the 9th of January 2017, and he will be sworn-in on 20th January 2017. Banks to remain open on Sunday, new notes will be available from today
After the demonetization of the Rs.500 and Rs.1000 denomination notes, things would start settling down from today when banks reopen. New notes will be available in banks from today and in the ATMs from tomorrow. Banks would exchange old notes with new till 8.00 pm. PM Modi leaves on his three-day visit to Japan
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has left for his three-day visit to Japan where he will have wide-ranging discussions with his Japanese counterpart, Shinzo Abe, and other Japanese leaders. The Indian PM is likely to discuss various issues of mutual cooperation between the two countries with the Japanese leaders. Rajkot Test, Root - Moin put England in strong position
The first test match between India and England began in Rajkot on Wednesday. Put into bat, England suffered some early blows. Their innings was steadied by in-form Joe Root, who went on to make his 11th Test century, his fourth against India. He was ably supported by Moin Ali, who was batting on 99 when stumps were drawn. Plea in SC against government’s demonetisation of Rs.500, Rs.1000 notes
A Supreme Court lawyer from Delhi, Mr. Sangam Lal Pandey, filed a petition in the apex court seeking the Court’s intervention in the government’s decision to demonetise the higher denomination currency notes. The petitioner has urged the court to order the quashing of the government decision. It was mentioned in the petition that the poor should be given reasonable opportunity to organise their lives. दिल्ली के एक वकील, श्री संगम लाल पांडे ने, सर्वोच्च न्यायालय में सरकार के बड़े नोटों के विमुद्रीकरण के फैसले के विरुद्ध एक जनहित याचिका दायर की है। याचिकाकर्ता ने न्यायालय से अनुरोध किया है कि वह सरकार के इस फैसले को तुरंत वापस लेने का आदेश जारी करे। याचिका में कहा गया है कि ऐसा फैसला लेने से पहले सरकार को गरीबों का विचार करना चाहिए और उन्हें अपने जीवन को व्यवस्थित करने का पर्याप्त समय मिलना चाहिए। इस पर न्यायालय में गुरुवार को विचार किया जाएगा। पत्रिका देखें

Investment in Alternative Investment Funds increases by 20% in Q2 of 2016-17
