After his victory in the US Presidential elections, President-elect Donald Trump called on US President Barack Obama at the White House. This type of a meeting between the President-elect and the incumbent President is customary in the US after the presidential elections for transfer of political power. The meeting, scheduled for 10 to 15 minutes, however lasted a full 90 minutes. Trump called Obama ‘a very good man’ after his meeting. Note that Trump had used harsh words for the Obamas earlier. India will not use nuclear weapons in an irresponsible manner – Defence Minister
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has asked why we should say we will not use nuclear weapons first. Instead, he said we should say that we are a responsible nuclear country and we will not use our nuclear weapons in an irresponsible manner. ATMs to open today after two days
All ATMs, which remained closed for the last two days after the demonetization of higher denomination currency notes on November 8, will once again start functioning normally from today. People have been, by and large, facing lot of difficulties in getting cash for their day to day use for the last two days because of the government’s sudden demonetization decision and closure of ATMs. The opening of ATMs will bring a lot of respite to people. Prime Minister Modi to meet Japanese PM Shinzo Abe today
India’s Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi arrived in Japan yesterday on his three-day visit. He will meet Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe today. Japan has agreed to a strong reference to terrorism which is likely to figure in the joint statement after the meeting of the two leaders. England in a strong position in Rajkot Test
England have placed themselves in a commanding position against India in the first Test being played in Rajkot. The England innings ended at 537 on the second day. Indian openers Gautam Gambhir and Murli Vijay made a cautious start and India were at 63 for no loss when play ended for the second day. It is noteworthy that England have never lost a Test match after scoring more than 450 runs. It will be a daunting task for India to fight back in the Test. Read Hindustan Times

Punjab can not deny Ravi-Beas water to Haryana and other states, rules SC
In a big blow to Punjab, the Supreme Court ruled that Punjab can not deny the waters of Ravi and Beas to Haryana and other states. The Court also ordered Punjab state government to comply with its earlier judgments on completion of the Sutlej-Yamuna link Canal. The Court also ruled the Pujnab Termination of Agreements Act, 2004 as unconstitutional. This event has brought into focus the checks and balances inherent in our Constitution, one aspect of which is the power of judicial review. Read The Tribune
सतलुज-यमुना लिंक नहर पर सर्वोच्च न्यायालय का पंजाब को झटका
सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने एक महत्वपूर्ण निर्णय देते हुए कहा है कि पंजाब रावी और ब्यास नदियों के जल को हरियाणा और अन्य राज्यों को देने से इंकार नहीं कर सकता है। न्यायालय ने पंजाब सरकार को आदेश दिया है कि वह सतलुज यमुना लिंक नहर पर न्यायालय द्वारा दिए गए पूर्व दो निर्णयों का पालन करे। इसके साथ ही न्यायालय ने पंजाब सरकार द्वारा पारित पंजाब टर्मिनेशन ऑफ अग्रीमेंट्स अधिनियम, 2004 को भी असंवैधानिक करार दिया है। इस घटना से हमारे संविधान में निहित नियंत्रण और संतुलन पुनः सिद्ध हुआ है, जो न्यायिक समीक्षा की शक्ति के तहत है। पत्रिका देखें

The Income Tax Department has conducted a series of raids in Mumbai, Delhi, Chandigarh and other cities on those taking demonetized currency at a discount, selling gold at a premium and Hawala operators offering foreign currency at a premium. Suicide attack on German consulate in Afghanistan
A suicide bomber has rammed a truck in the German consulate in the Northern Afghan city of Mazar-e-Sharif. As per reports, at least two persons were killed and many others injured in the attack. Afghan Taliban has taken the responsibility of the attack, which was against the coalition air strikes earlier in the month. Germany has more than 1000 troops in Afghanistan. Read BBC News

Indian women’s cricket team has defeated the visiting West Indian team by six wickets in the first One-Day International which was played at Vijaywada. India goes one-up in the three-match series with this victory. Indian women dismissed West Indies for a paltry 131, with Rajeshwari Gaikwad claiming 4 wickets for 21 runs.
