His resignation comes after the independent directors of the company unanimously reposed faith in Cyrus Mistry as Chairman of the company. Bhat has said in his resignation that he had raised certain concerns which the Board had ignored completely. Pakistani Senator asks govt. to emulate India and demonetise high-denomination notes
After Indian PM Modi’s move to demonetise higher denomination notes in India to curb black money in the economy, similar demands are also on the rise in Pakistan. 6.2 magnitude earthquake strikes off the coast of Japan
The US geological survey has reported a 6.2 magnitude earthquake in the eastern coastal areas of Japan in the early hours on Saturday. There are no reports of any loss of life or property so far. The meteorological dept. of Japan has said that no tsunami warning was issued. Japan is situated at a location where four tectonic plates meet, making it a perennially dangerous spot & Japan is prone to frequent earthquakes. Japan-India ink landmark nuclear energy deal after six long years of negotiations
The civil nuclear deal, signed between the two countries, was intensely negotiated for six long years. India needs Japan's help and since Japanese companies own some American companies that hold technology for nuclear reactors, India had to get Japan on board. The agreement marks a historic step in the two countries’ engagement to build a clean energy partnership. It now allows Japan to supply nuclear reactors, fuel and technology to India. IMF supports government’s demonetization measures
IMF spokesperson Gerry Rice has said that it supports the Indian government’s measures to fight corruption and illegal financial flows in the country. She however, said that, considering the huge role of cash in the Indian economy, the government should exercise due care to minimize disruptions in the economy. PM inaugurates two projects in Goa
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi reached Goa on Sunday and laid the foundation stone of two major projects in the state. He first laid the foundation of a greenfield airport at Mopa and that of an electronic city in Tuem. Mopa airport will be Goa’s first civilian airport being, and will be developed by GMR. A new international trade route opened today when a Chinese ship exporting goods to the Middle East and Africa was seen off from the Gwadar Port in Pakistan. Chinese trucks first carried the goods to Gwadar from the Chinese city of Xinjiang. It is noteworthy that this port has been developed in Pakistan with Chinese assistance. A day after a 6.4 magnitude earthquake in Japan, a 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck east coast of New Zealand, which was followed by tsunami. The first wave of tsunami hit the south island, and there are warnings of further waves. Security personnel have advised those living in the coastal areas to move to higher and safer places.
