A group of heavily armed suicide terrorists in police uniform attacked the Army base in Nagrota, near Jammu on Tuesday and resorted to indiscriminate firing. Seven army personnel including two officers were killed in the incident. Terrorists took 16 people hostage including 12 soldiers, women and children. 5. Judges appointment: Under fire from CJI over High Court vacancies, govt. presents data
Facing severe criticism from the Chief Justice of India over increasing vacancies in the High Courts, the government has now furnished figures to the apex court. It also said that the Supreme Court Collegium failed to recommend even a single name in the last one year, although there are seven vacancies in the apex court. 8. India clocks GDP growth at 7.3% in September quarter
India’s GDP growth rate for the quarter ending September 30 has been 7.3% over the same period last year. Services sector and agriculture sector were the leaders in this growth. Manufacturing sector lagged behind. Investment activity also witnessed a decline during the quarter. The growth rate for the April-June quarter was 7.1%. The meteorological department has said that cyclonic storm named Nada has been building in the Bay of Bengal and is expected the coast of Tamil Nadu on Friday. It is expected to hit near Cuddalore, about 185km from Chennai between Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. It is said to intensify as it proceeds towards Tamil Nadu.
