Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) Asian Economic Integration Report 2016 has said that the two largest economies of Asia – China and India – will help maintain the growth rate of the Asian region at 5.7% in 2016 and 2017. The report has further mentioned that India’s growth prospects have been boosted by the acceptance of the 7th Pay Commission recommendations and the possible implementation of the GST regime next year. The first review meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) post-demonetisation was held amid expectations of a policy rate cut from the RBI. However, the RBI Governor Urjit Patel announced that the central bank will keep its policy repo rate unchanged at 6.25 percent . The same was cut by 25 basis points (bps) at the previous review in October. This is a double-whammy now - cash has vanished from the markets, and rates are not reducing anytime soon. A strong undersea earthquake hit Indonesia's Aceh province early on Wednesday, killing at least 97 people and causing huge damage to property. The US Geological Survey said the shallow 6.5 magnitude earthquake was centered about 10 kilometers north of Reuleut, a town in northern Aceh. It did not generate a tsunami. Read NDTV

5. Journalist, actor, playwright Cho Ramaswamy dead
Famous and fearless intellectual Cho S Ramaswamy passed away at the age of 82. A former member of Rajya Sabha, he was unwell for some time and breathed his last in the hospital. Ramaswamy founded and edited the political magazine Tuglak and was fearless in criticising the ruling government in the state or at the centre. Read India Today

The Supreme Court allowed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to spend Rs. 1.33 crore for the remaining two matches of the India-England series. The court, however, directed the board to submit an affidavit on the revenue collections from all Test matches in the series.
