        • 1. Economic Survey – In the middle of a raging debate over demonetization and its impact on the Indian GDP, the Economic Survey for FY 2016-17, drafted by the CEA’s team will be presented in the Parliament.           2. Indian politics – The CBI investigation into huge fraudulent loans awarded to Mallya-owned and failing Kingfisher Airlines in 2011 has reached the Finance Ministry setup of that time. Hints are that some bigwigs pushed the deal to save the airlines from sinking.
          3. Terrorism – The much-sought action against terror proponent Hafiz Lashkar Saeed (Pakistan) who masterminded the horrific Mumbai attacks (2008), founded the Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT) and is the chief of Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD), was initiated by the Punjab provincial govt. putting him under house arrest in Lahore.
          4. Science and technology – The Indian Space Research Organisation is gearing up for its most audacious bid to launch 104 satellites in one go on Feb 15, 2017. This mega-launch will be a world record! 
          5. World politics – The Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte who has been leading a massive (and violent, and much-criticised) crackdown on drug gangs has apologized for the murder of South Korean businessman (for ransom) by rogue police officers, and has ordered the dissolution of police anti-drug units for the excesses.
          6. Demonetisation – After all the dust has settled, the nation will now decide based on how the government balances the multiple demands for growth from various quarters, in its Union Budget to be presented on 01 Feb in the Parliament.
          7. Corporate – The rumour of Idea Cellular and Vodafone India merging to create the largest Telecom Company in India were confirmed. If it happens, then Airtel will lose its top position, and Jio would have upset the apple cart like never before.
          8. Constitution and law – The unraveling of the BCCI’s old ways was completed today when the Supreme Court appointing a 4-member Panel of Administrators : Former CAG Vinod Rai will be the administrator, while historian Ramachandra Guha, IDFC CEO Vikram Limaye and former India women's captain Diana Edulji will be the members.
          9. Society and culture – The film fraternity made news. Salman Khan claimed in court that the blackbuck was not shot but died of natural causes, and the producer of Padmavati – Sanjay Leela Bhansali – was manhandled during shooting in Rajasthan for “distorting historical facts”.
          10.  Indian politics – A court in Delhi summoned Arvind Kejriwal of AAP and suspended BJP MP Kirti Azad in a defamation case related to the DDCA matter where present Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had run the show for many years.

        • 1. आर्थिक सर्वेक्षण - विमुद्रीकरण और भारत के सकल घरेलू उत्पाद (जीडीपी) पर उसके प्रभावों पर जारी उग्र बहस के बीच मुख्य आर्थिक सलाहकार की टीम द्वारा तैयार किया गया वित्त वर्ष 2016-17 का आर्थिक सर्वेक्षण संसद में प्रस्तुत किया जाएगा। प्रधानमंत्री ने विरोधी पक्षों को अलग से आश्वासन दिया है कि बजट की तारीखें राज्य विधान सभा के चुनावों से जुडी हुई नहीं हैं। आर्थिक सर्वेक्षण और केंद्रीय बजट पर सर्वश्रेष्ठ विश्लेषण के लिए आप यहाँ नामांकन कर सकते हैं
          2. भारतीय राजनीति - वर्ष 2011 में विजय माल्या के स्वामित्व वाली असफल होती किंगफिशर एयरलाइन्स को दिए गए विशाल ऋणों की धोखाधड़ी की केंद्रीय अन्वेषण ब्यूरो (सीबीआई) की जांच वित्त मंत्रालय की तत्कालीन व्यवस्था तक पहुँच गई है। संकेत इस बात के हैं कि संबंधित एयरलाइन्स को डूबने से बचाने के लिए कुछ वरिष्ठ व्यक्तियों ने इस सौदे को आगे बढाया था
          3. आतंकवाद - आतंकवाद के समर्थक हाफिज सईद (पाकिस्तान), जिसने भीषण मुंबई हमलों (2008) की योजना बनाई थी, जो लश्करे तय्यबा (एलईटी) का संस्थापक और जमात-उद-दावा का प्रमुख था, के विरुद्ध दीर्घ प्रतीक्षित कार्रवाई पाकिस्तान के पंजाब प्रांत की सरकार द्वारा आखिर शुरू की गई जिसके तहत उसे लाहौर में नजरबंद किया गया है
          4. विज्ञान और प्रौद्योगिकी - भारतीय अंतरिक्ष अनुसंधान संगठन 15 फरवरी 2017 को एकसाथ 140 उपग्रह प्रक्षेपित करने के अपने सर्वाधिक साहसी प्रयास की तैयारी को अंतिम रूप दे रहा है। यह अति-विशाल प्रक्षेपण एक विश्व कीर्तिमान होगा !
          5. विश्व राजनीति - फिलीपींस के राष्ट्रपति रोड्रिगो दुतेर्ते ने, जो एक मादक पदार्थों के अतिविशाल (और हिंसक, और जिसकी काफी आलोचना हुई है) गिरोह के विनाश का नेतृत्व कर रहे हैं, दुष्ट पुलिस अधिकारियों द्वारा दक्षिण कोरियाई व्यापारी की हत्या (फिरौती के लिए) के लिए माफी मांगी है, और इन ज्यादतियों के लिए पुलिस की नशा-रोधी इकाइयों को भंग करने के आदेश दिए हैं
          6. विमुद्रीकरण - विमुद्रीकरण पर उठा समस्त गुबार थमने के बाद देश अब इस आधार पर निर्णय करेगा कि सरकार संसद में 1 फरवरी को प्रस्तुत किये जाने वाले अपने केंद्रीय बजट में विभिन्न क्षेत्रों की वृद्धि की बहुविध मांगों का संतुलन किस प्रकार स्थापित करती है
          7. निगम - भारत में सबसे बड़ी दूरसंचार कंपनी के निर्माण के लिए आईडिया सेलुलर और वोडाफोन इंडिया के विलय की अफवाह की पुष्टि कर दी गई है। यदि यह विलय होता है तो एयरटेल अपना शीर्ष स्थान खो देगा और साथ ही जियो की सभी भावी संभावनाएं धाराशाही हो जाएंगी
          8. संविधान और कानून - भारतीय क्रिकेट नियंत्रण बोर्ड (बीसीसीआई) के पुराने तरीकों की विवृत्ति आज तब पूरी हो गई जब सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने एक चार-सदस्यीय प्रशासक समूह की नियुक्ति की रू पूर्व कैग श्री विनोद राय प्रशासक होंगे जबकि इतिहासकार रामचंद्र गुहा, आईडीएफसी के मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी विक्रम लिमये और भारतीय महिला क्रिकेट टीम की भूतपूर्व कप्तान डायना एडुल्जी इस समिति के सदस्य होंगे
          9. समाज और संस्कृति - फिल्म बिरादरी समाचारों में छाई हुई है। सलमान खान ने न्यायालय में दावा किया कि काले हिरण को गोली नहीं मारी गई थी बल्कि उसकी मृत्यु प्राकृतिक कारणों से हुई थी, और फिल्म पद्मावती के निर्माता - संजय लीला भंसाली - के साथ “ऐतिहासिक तथ्यों को विकृत करने” के लिए राजस्थान में चल रही फिल्म की शूटिंग के दौरान मारपीट और हाथापाई की गई
          10. भारतीय राजनीति - दिल्ली की एक अदालत ने डीडीसीए मामले से संबंधित मानहानि के मामले में आम आदमी पार्टी के संयोजक अरविंद केजरीवाल को तलब किया जबकि भाजपा सांसद कीर्ति आजाद को निलंबित किया। वर्तमान केंद्रीय वित्त मंत्री अरुण जेटली ने काफी वर्षों तक डीडीसीए की बागडोर संभाली थी

        • 1. The Khanderi nuclear-capable submarine of India is the second Kalvari class Scorpene submarine which will now undergo rigorous tests and trials on the surface and underwater before being commissioned into the Indian Navy as "INS Khanderi" by December 2017.
          2. The submarine’s name ‘Khanderi’ is taken after the Island fort of the Maratha forces, which played an important role in ensuring their supremacy at sea in late 17th century. Shivaji is often called the “father of the Indian navy”.
          3. The Khanderi is armed with torpedoes, as well as tube-launched anti-ship missiles, capable of being launched from underwater or from the surface. Khanderi can also run in extreme temperatures, giving it a certain invulnerability.
          4. The state-of-the-art features of the Scorpene include superior stealth and the ability to launch crippling attacks on the enemy using precision-guided weapons. It is built in India by Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) under a transfer-of-technology agreement with the French group DCNS.
          5. Khanderi is powered by a diesel-electric engine, so it cannot remain submerged for long durations (like a nuclear engine submarine) and will have to resurface to recharge its batteries using a snorkelling pipe.
          6. It was built using a modular construction technique and several sections were outfitted concurrently, a complex task involving cabling and piping of many kilometers in congested compartments.
          7. The vacuum testing matched the record of the earlier Scorpene Kalvari, which also completed these tests in one shot - a feat unmatched in submarine construction history.
          8. Until December, the submarine will undergo rigorous tests and trials in harbour and at sea, and on surface and underwater, so each system is tested to its fullest capacity, before it is commissioned into the Indian Navy as "INS Khanderi".   [Read our detailed Bodhi on India’s defence preparedness here!]
          9. In traditional style, the ships and submarines of the Navy are brought alive again after decommissioning. The first ship "Khanderi" was commissioned on December 6, 1968 and decommissioned in October 1989, before it was "reincarnated" by MDL as a powerful predator for the deep waters.
          10.  India’s strategic push to strengthen its navy comes after repeated threats from China pushing into the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) using its ally Pakistan, and attempts to reach the Bay of Bengal via Myanmar.

          2. इस पनडुब्बी का नाम खांदेरी मराठा सेनाओं के उस द्वीप दुर्ग पर रखा गया है जिसने 17 वीं सदी में उनके समुद्री वर्चस्व को सुनिश्चित करने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई थी। शिवाजी को अक्सर भारतीय नौसेना का जनक” कहा जाता है।
          3. खांदेरी पनडुब्बी तारपीडो और ट्यूब द्वारा प्रक्षेपित जहाज-रोधी मिसाइल से सुसज्जित है जो जमीनी सतह और पानी के अंदर से प्रक्षेपित की जा सकती है। खांदेरी पनडुब्बी चरम तापमानों में भी संचालित की जाने में सक्षम है जो इसे काफी हद तक अभेद्यता प्रदान करती है
          4. स्कॉर्पीन की अत्याधुनिक विशेषताओं में दुश्मन पर श्रेष्ठ कपटपूर्ण आक्रमण और विकलांग करने वाले आक्रमण करने की क्षमता शामिल है जिनमें सटीक नियंत्रित हथियारों का उपयोग किया जाता है। इसका निर्माण फ्रांसीसी समूह डीसीएनएस के साथ प्रौद्योगिकी हस्तांतरण के तहत भारत में मजगांव डॉक लिमिटेड द्वारा किया गया है
          5. खांदेरी को डीजल-विद्युत इंजन द्वारा सशक्त किया गया है अतः वह लंबी अवधि के लिए पानी में डूबी हुई नहीं रह सकती है (परमाणु इंजन पनडुब्बी की तरह) और इसे एक स्नॉर्कलिंग पाइप के उपयोग से अपनी बैटरी को रिचार्ज करने के लिए ऊपर आना पड़ता है
          6. इसका निर्माण एक मॉड्यूलर निर्माण तकनीक का उपयोग करके किया गया है और इसके अनेक घटक समवर्ती रूप से सुसज्जित किये गए थे। यह एक जटिल कार्य था जिसमें अतिप्रजन डिब्बों में कई किलोमीटर तक केबलिंग और पाइपिंग का कार्य शामिल था
          7. इसका निर्वात परीक्षण पूर्व की स्कॉर्पीन कलवारी के रिकॉर्ड के समकक्ष था जिसने स्वयं भी एक ही बार में इन परीक्षणों को पूरा किया था - यह एक ऐसा कीर्तिमान था जो पनडुब्बी निर्माण के इतिहास में इससे पूर्व कभी नहीं किया जा सका था
          8. दिसंबर तक यह पनडुब्बी अपनी संपूर्ण क्षमता के साथ कठोर परीक्षणों से गुजरेगी और इसके बाद ही इसे “आईएनएस खांदेरी” के रूप में भारतीय नौसेना में शामिल किया जाएगा
          9. पारंपरिक शैली में नौसेना के जहाजों और पनडुब्बियों को सेवा से बाहर करने के बाद पुनः पुनर्जीवित किया जाता है। पहला जहाज “खांदेरी” 6 दिसंबर 1968 में शामिल किया गया था और इसे अक्टूबर 1989 में सेवा मुक्त किया गया था, जिसे बाद में मजगांव डॉक लिमिटेड द्वारा गहरे जल के शक्तिशाली शिकारी के रूप में “पुनर्निर्मित” किया गया था
          10. अपनी नौसेना के सशक्तिकरण को बढ़ावा देने की भारत की रणनीति चीन की अपने मित्र देश पाकिस्तान के साथ हिंद महासागर क्षेत्र में बढ़ने की लगातार धमकियों और म्यांमार से होकर बंगाल की खाड़ी तक पहुँचने के प्रयासों के बाद शुरू की गई
