        • 1. Indian economy – Economic Survey for 2016-17 was presented in the Parliament. DeMo likely to hit GDP growth rate by 0.25-0.5%. The informal sector suffered the most, formal sector too impacted as large scale layoff in the informal sector reduced demand for products.
          2. Indian economy – IT stocks plunged over 4% after the new H-1B visa Bill in the US. Experts feel skills, not salary, should be the criteria, as H-1B visa also has indirect benefits for US economy.
          3. Indian economy – TheUnion Budget is expected to stress on employment and skilling youth in the context of increasing urbanization. That remains India’s Achilles Heel.
          4. Indian economy – Government considering proposal on creating a Government Assets Rehabilitation Agency (PARA) to get PSU banks get rid of the burden of NPAs (Nor Performing Assets). This is a major structural change proposed.
          5. Indian politics – Though the new SP leadership in UP has finally given a ticket to ousted state SP chief Shivpal Yadav, he has hinted at floating a new political party after March 11. The vertical split in the family is clear now.
          6. Terrorism – The Pakistan Army, for the first time after the detention of Mumbai terror attack mastermind and Jamaat-Ud-Dawa founder Hafiz Saeed, has come out in support of the civilian government’s decision saying that the action has been taken in national interest. Result of Trump’s possible pressure?
          7. Constitution and law – First conviction under PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) – Jharkhand ex-minister Hari Narayan Rai convicted for laundering Rs. 3.7 crore earned through corrupt means. The verdict comes  8 years after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) registered a case against the accused.
          8. Constitution and law – The Supreme Court reproached the TN government over its failure to maintain law and order during the Jallikattu protests. The Court, however, declined to stay the new law of the state govt. allowing Jallikattu.
          9. World politics – President Donald Trump nominated conservative judge Neil Gorsuch as his Supreme Court nominee against strong opposition and protests from the Democrats. In America, Supreme Court judges have no retirement age.
          10.   Persons and personalities – After the appointment of Alok Kumar Verma as the CBI Director, the government has appointed Amulya Kumar Patnaik to succeed him as the Delhi Police Commissioned. Shri Patnaik was earlier posted as Special CP Administration.

        • 1. भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था - वर्ष 2016-17 का आर्थिक सर्वेक्षण संसद में प्रस्तुत किया गया। सर्वेक्षण में स्वीकार किया गया है कि विमुद्रीकरण के कारण जीडीपी वृद्धि दर को 0.25 प्रतिशत से 0.5 प्रतिशत का नुकसान हो सकता है। इसके कारण अनौपचारिक क्षेत्र को सर्वाधिक नुकसान हुआ है, साथ ही इसका औपचारिक क्षेत्र को भी काफी नुकसान हुआ है क्योंकि अनौपचारिक क्षेत्र में हुई व्यापक रोजगार हानि के चलते औपचारिक क्षेत्र के उत्पादों की मांग में भारी कमी हुई।
          2. भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था - अमेरिका के नए एच-1बी वीजा विधेयक के बाद सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी क्षेत्र के शेयरों में 4 प्रतिशत से अधिक की गिरावट हुई। विशेषज्ञों की राय है कि वेतन के बजाय कौशल को मानदंड बनाना चाहिए, क्योंकि एच 1-बी वीजा के अमेरिकी अर्थव्यवस्था के लिए काफी अप्रत्यक्ष लाभ हैं।
          3. भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था - अनुमान व्यक्त किया जा रहा है कि बढ़ते शहरीकरण के संदर्भ में आगामी केंद्रीय बजट में रोजगार निर्मिती और युवाओं के कौशल निर्माण पर अधिक जोर दिया जाएगा। ये भारत की एक बड़ी समस्या बनी हुई है।
          4. भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था - सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र की बैंकों के गैर-निष्पादित परिसंपत्तियों के भारी बोझ को कम करने के लिए सरकार एक सरकारी परिसंपत्ति पुनर्वास अभिकरण (पीएआरए) के निर्माण के प्रस्ताव पर विचार कर रही है। ये एक बडा ढांचागत बदलाव होगा।
          5. भारतीय राजनीति - हालांकि उत्तरप्रदेश की समाजवादी पार्टी के नए नेतृत्व ने पार्टी के निष्काषित प्रदेश अध्यक्ष शिवपाल यादव को अंततः विधानसभा चुनाव का टिकट दिया है, परंतु उन्होंने 11 मार्च के बाद नई राजनीतिक पार्टी बनाने के संकेत दिए हैं। परिवार में टूट साफ दिख रही है।
          6. आतंकवाद - मुंबई हमले के मुख्य योजनाकार और जमात-उद-दावा के संस्थापक हाफिज सईद की नजरबंदी के बाद पहली बार पाकिस्तानी सेना ने नागरिक सरकार के इस कदम का यह कहते हुए समर्थन किया है कि यह देश हित में लिया गया कदम है। क्या ट्रम्प का दबाव काम कर रहा है?
          7. संविधान और कानून - धन-शोधन निवारण अधिनियम (पीएमएलए) के अंतर्गत पहली दोषसिद्धि। झारखण्ड राज्य के पूर्व मंत्री हरी नारायण राय को भ्रष्ट मार्गों से अर्जित किये गए 3.7 करोड़ रुपये के धन-शोधन का दोषी पाया गया है। यह फैसला प्रवर्तन निदेशालय द्वारा आरोपी के विरुद्ध दायर किये गए मुकदमे के 8 वर्ष बाद आया है
          8. संविधान और कानून - सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने जल्लीकट्टू विरोध प्रदर्शनों के दौरान कानून व्यवस्था बनाये रखने में विफल होने के चलते तमिलनाडु सरकार को कड़ी फटकार लगाईं है। हालांकि न्यायालय ने जल्लीकट्टू को अनुमति देने के राज्य सरकार के कानून पर रोक लगाने से इंकार कर दिया है।
          9. विश्व राजनीति - डॉनल्ड ट्रम्प ने डेमोक्रेट्स के भारी विरोध के बावजूद कंजर्वेटिव न्यायाधीश नील गोर्सच को अपना सर्वोच्च न्यायालय उम्मीदवार नामित किया है। अमेरिका में उच्चतम न्यायलय के न्यायाधीशों की कोई सेवा-निवृत्ति की आयु नहीं होती।
          10. व्यक्ति और व्यक्तित्व - दिल्ली के पुलिस आयुक्त अलोक कुमार वर्मा की केंद्रीय अन्वेषण ब्यूरो के निदेशक नियुक्त होने के बाद सरकार ने अमूल्य कुमार पटनायक को दिल्ली का नया पुलिस आयुक्त नियुक्त किया है। इससे पूर्व श्री पनायक विशेष पुलिस आयुक्त (प्रशासन) के पद पर कार्यरत थे।

        • 1. India’s foreign policy priorities and strategic objectives can be summarised as : (1) An integrated neighbourhood, (2) Promoting domestic development by leveraging international partnerships, (3) ensuring a stable balance of power in the Indo-Pacific region,  (4) Isolating Pakistan to try and dissuade it from supporting terrorism, and (5) Increasing our representation on global governance issues
          2. India’s foreign policy objective has always been world peace and we always desired peaceful and friendly relations with all countries including global powers and neighbours. Unfortunately, the reciprocation has been minimal.
          3. PM Nehru signed a peace agreement with China and advocated five guiding principles called Panchsheel. The high hope was that of a peaceful co-existence.
          4. Panchsheel was signed on April 28, 1954, and has been a guiding principle of India’s bilateral relations with countries of the world ever since.
          5. The five principles of Panchsheel are : (1) Mutual respect for each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, (2) Non-aggression against each other, (3) Non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, (4) Equality and mutual benefit, and (5) Peaceful co-existence
          6. One of the most important elements of India’s foreign policy is its belief in the use of fair means for political solutions and peaceful settlement of global disputes.
          7. India has always supported the UN, International laws and a world order based on equality. 
          8. India proposed a nuclear disarmament before the UN in 1988. Although this proposal was not accepted by other countries, India is committed to universal disarmament.
          9. Opposition to colonialism and imperialism has also been an important objective of India’s foreign policy
          10.   India has signed strategic partnership agreements with more than 25 countries. The top six of these are with Russia, US, France, UK, Germany and Japan.
        • 1. भारत की विदेश नीति की प्राथमिकताओं और सामरिक उद्देश्यों को निम्नानुसार सारांशित किया जा सकता है - (1) एक एकीकृत पड़ोस, (2) अंतर्राष्ट्रीय भागीदारियों का लाभ उठाते हुए घरेलू विकास को बढ़ावा देना, (3) भारत-प्रशांत क्षेत्र में एक स्थाई शक्ति संतुलन सुनिश्चित करना, (4) पाकिस्तान को आतंकवाद का समर्थन करने से सिलग करने के प्रयास में उसे अलग-थलग करना, और (5) वैश्विक शासन मुद्दों पर अपने प्रतिनिधित्व को बढ़ाना।
          2. भारत की विदेश नीति का उद्देश्य हमेशा से ही विश्व शांति रहा है, और हमने हमेशा विश्व महाशक्तियों और पडोसी देशों सहित विश्व के सभी देशों के साथ शांतिपूर्ण संबंधों की इच्छा प्रदर्शित की है।
          3. प्रधानमंत्री नेहरु ने चीन के साथ एक शांति समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किये थे और उन्होंने पांच मार्गदर्शक सिद्धांतों की पैरवी की थी जिन्हें पंचशील कहा जाता है
          4. पंचशील समझौते पर 28 अप्रैल 1954 को हस्ताक्षर किये गए थे और तभी से यह हमारी विदेश नीति का मार्गदर्शक सिद्धांत रहा है।
          5. पंचशील के पांच सिद्धांत निम्नानुसार हैं - (1) एक दूसरे की प्रादेशिक अखंडता और संप्रभुता का सम्मान, (2) एक-दूसरे के विरुद्ध अनाक्रमण, (3) एक दूसरे के आतंरिक मामलों में अहस्तक्षेप की नीति का पालन करना, (4) समानता और परस्पर लाभ, और (5) शांतिपूर्ण सह-अस्तित्व।
          6. भारत की विदेश नीति के सबसे महत्वपूर्ण तत्वों में से एक है वैश्विक विवादों के राजनीतिक समाधान और शांतिपूर्ण निराकरण के लिए उचित साधनों का उपयोग करना।
          7. भारत ने हमेशा से संयुक्त राष्ट्र, अंतर्राष्ट्रीय कानूनों और समानता पर आधारित विश्व व्यवस्था का समर्थन किया है।
          8. भारत ने वर्ष 1988 में संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ के समक्ष एक परमाणु निरस्त्रीकरण का प्रस्ताव प्रस्तुत किया था, हालांकि अन्य देशों ने इस प्रस्ताव को स्वीकार नहीं किया, परंतु भारत सार्वभौमिक निरस्त्रीकरण के प्रति प्रतिबद्ध है।
          9. उपनिवेशवाद और साम्राज्यवाद का विरोध भी भारत की विदेश नीति का एक प्रमुख उद्देश्य रहा है।
          10. भारत ने 25 से अधिक देशों के साथ सामरिक भागीदारी समझौते किये हैं। इनमें से शीर्ष छह समझौते रूस, अमेरिका, फ्रांस, यूके, जर्मनी और जापान के साथ किये गए सामरिक भागीदारी समझौते हैं          ।
