        • 1. Indian politics – Polling in the Punjab and Goa assembly elections was by and large peaceful with record voter turnout. Punjab recorded 70% polling whereas voter turnout in Goa was a record 83%.
          2. World politics – Declassified US documents revealed that the former Sir Lankan President Jayewardene told US envoy that he was forced into a deal with India. In recent years, Sri Lanka has been strategically important for India due to increasing Chinese presence.
          3. Indian politics – PM Modi has said in a rally in Up that the BJP was fighting the elections against  “SCAM”, in which S is for Samajwadi Party, C for Congress, A for Akhilesh Yadav and M is for Mayawati. The retort from them was SCAM stands for “Save Country from Amit (Shah) and Modi (PM)”.
          4. Indian Politics – In a not so surprising development in Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister Panneerselvam submitted his resignation to pave the way for new party General Secretary Sasikala to take charge of the state. She is expected to be sworn-in as the Chief Minister in the next few days.
          5. Indian economy – Since the government has adhered to fiscal discipline in the budget, it is expected that the Reserve Bank may cut policy rates by a quarter percentage points.
          6. Indian economy – Although the FM has tried to pave way for private spending through relief to the middle-income class in the income tax exemption limit, FMCG companies feel that the pre-demonetisation growth rates may be achieved only by April this year.
          7. Indian economy – Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia has said that it would be difficult to accept Apple’s demand for a 15-year exemption on countervailing duty on imported components under the GST regime.
          8. World politics – A federal appeals court of America has declined the justice department’s request for an immediate reinstatement of President Trump’s ban on travelers from 7 countries.
          9. World politics– US President Donald Trump has assured Ukrainian Prime Minister that the US would not lift the sanctions imposed on Russia until it pulls out of Ukraine.
          10. World politics – Presidential candidate of the National Front Party of France launched her presidential campaign promising ‘France First’ (similar to Trump’s America First), freeing France from the tyrannies of globalization, Islamic fundamentalism and the European Union.

        • 1. भारतीय राजनीति - पंजाब और गोवा विधानसभा चुनावों के लिए रविवार को हुआ भारी मतदान आमतौर पर शांतिपूर्ण रहा। जहाँ पंजाब में लगभग 70 प्रतिशत मतदाताओं ने अपने मताधिकार का उपयोग किया वहीँ गोवा में रिकॉर्ड 83 प्रतिशत मतदान दर्ज किया गया।
          2. विश्व राजनीति - अमेरिकी दस्तावेजों ने उजागर किया है कि तत्कालीन श्रीलंकाई राष्ट्रपति जयवर्धने ने अमेरिकी राजदूत को बताया था कि भारत के साथ समझौता करने के लिए उनपर दबाव डाला गया था। हाल के वर्षों में, श्रीलंका में बढ़ती चीनी घुसपैठ के चलते भारत के लिए वह अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण हो चुका है।
          3. भारतीय राजनीति - उत्तरप्रदेश में एक चुनावी रैली में प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने कहा कि भाजपा को उत्तरप्रदेश में “स्कैम” के विरुद्ध चुनाव लड़ना पड़ रहा है जिसमें एस का अर्थ है समाजवादी पार्टी, सी का अर्थ है कांग्रेस पार्टी, ए का अर्थ अखिलेश यादव और एम का अर्थ मायावती है। उनका जवाब था कि ‘‘स्कैम‘‘ का अर्थ है ‘‘सेव कंट्री फ्रॉम अमित (शाह) एंड मोदी (प्रधानमंत्री)‘‘।
          4. भारतीय राजनीति - तमिलनाडु में एक नाटकीय घटनाक्रम में मुख्यमंत्री पन्नीरसेल्वम ने अपने पद से त्यागपत्र दे दिया है। माना जाता है कि उन्होंने यह कदम एआईएडीएमके की नव-निर्वाचित महासचिव शशिकला को मुख्यमंत्री के रूप में सत्ता सौंपने के लिए उठाया है।
          5. भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था - चूंकि बजट में सरकार ने राजकोषीय अनुशासन का अनुपालन करने का संकल्प व्यक्त किया है, अतः उम्मीद की जा रही है कि आरबीआई नीतिगत दरों में 25 प्रतिशत अंकों की कमी कर सकती है।
          6. भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था - हालांकि वित्तमंत्री ने बजट में निजी व्यय को बढ़ावा देने के लिए बजट में मध्यम-आय वर्ग को आयकर छूट सीमा में राहत दी है परंतु फिर भी अति-गतिशील उपभोक्ता वस्तु (एफएमजीसी) कंपनियों को लगता है कि विमुद्रीकरण पूर्व की स्थिति अप्रैल के पहले आने की संभावना नहीं है।
          7. भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था - राजस्व सचिव हसमुख अधिया ने कहा है कि जीएसटी शासन के अंतर्गत आयातित पुर्जों पर प्रतिकारी शुल्क में 15 वर्ष की छूट देने की एप्पल की मांग को स्वीकार करना काफी कठिन है।
          8. विश्व राजनीति - अमेरिका की एक संघीय अपीलीय अदालत ने अमेरिकी न्याय विभाग के राष्ट्रपति ट्रम्प के 7 देशों के नागरिकों पर लगाए गए प्रतिबंध को पुनर्स्थापित करने के अनुरोध को अस्वीकार कर दिया है।
          9. विश्व राजनीति - अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डॉनल्ड ट्रम्प ने यूक्रेन के प्रधानमंत्री को को भरोसा दिलाया है कि वे रूस पर अधिरोपित किये गए प्रतिबंध तब तक नहीं उठाएंगे जब तक वह यूक्रेन से बाहर नहीं हो जाता।
          10. विश्व राजनीति - फ्रांस कि नेशनल फ्रंट पार्टी की राष्ट्रपति पद की उम्मीदवार ने अपने चुनाव अभियान की शुरुआत अमेरिका की तर्ज पर ‘फ्रांस सबसे पहले’, फ्रांस को वैश्वीकरण के उत्पीडन, इस्लामिक कट्टरवाद और यूरोपीय संघ से मुक्त करने के आश्वासन के साथ की।

        • 1. India’s first budget was presented on April 7, 1860 to the British Crown by East India Company’s James Wilson.
          2. Independent India’s first budget was presented by the country’s first finance minister R. K. Shanmukham Chetty on November 26, 1947. Actually it was a review of the economy, hence no new taxes were proposed. From then on an interim budget began to mean a budget for a short period.
          3. John Mathai was India’s third finance minister and had the privilege of presenting the first budget of the Republic of India.
          4. The budget documents were printed in Hindi for the first time during 1955-56 budget.
          5. The budget was presented at 5 PM till the year 2000. Finance Minister Yeshwant Sinha changed the practice and presented the budget at 11.00 AM during the budget of 2001.
          6. Morarji Desai has the credit of presenting the maximum number of budgets. He presented 10 budgets. He is the only finance minister to present the budget on his birthday (29th Feb.) twice in 1964 and 1968.
          7. Two major changes were affected in budget 2017 for the first time – First, the budget was presented on the first day of February instead of the last day of February and second, that the Railway Budget was amalgamated with the Union Budget.
          8. Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi are the three prime ministers who presented the Union Budget.
          9. Dr. Manmohan Singh became the finance minister in 1991 and presented the budget in which he opened up the economy (with full support of PM Narasimha Rao), encouraged foreign investment and reduced peak import duty from 300% to 50%.
          10. The final budget for 1996-97 was presented by Shri P. Chidambaram as the finance minister in the I. K. Gujaral government, but as the government was on its way out, a special session of the Parliament was convened only to pass the budget, which was passed without a debate.
        • 1. भारत का पहला बजट 7 अप्रैल 1860 को ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी के जेम्स विल्सन द्वारा ब्रिटिश ताज को प्रस्तुत किया गया था।
          2. स्वतंत्र भारत का पहला बजट देश के पहले वित्तमंत्री आर. के. षन्मुखम चेट्टी द्वारा 26 नवंबर 1947 को प्रस्तुत किया गया था। वास्तव में यह अर्थव्यवस्था की समीक्षा मात्र थी, अतः इसमें कोई कर प्रस्तावित नहीं किये गए थे। उसी समय से अंतरिम बजट को अल्पावधि बजट माना जाने लगा।
          3. जॉन मथाई भारत के तीसरे वित्तमंत्री थे और उन्हें भारत गणराज्य का पहला बजट प्रस्तुत करने का सौभाग्य प्राप्त हुआ।
          4. बजट के दस्तावेज वर्ष 1955-56 के दौरान पहली बार हिंदी भाषा में मुद्रित किये गए थे।
          5. वर्ष 2000 तक बजट शाम 5 बजे प्रस्तुत किया जाता था। वित्तमंत्री यशवंत सिन्हा ने इस प्रथा में परिवर्तन किया और वर्ष 2001 का बजट पहली बार सुबह 11 बजे प्रस्तुत किया गया।
          6. श्री मोरारजी देसाई को अब तक सर्वाधिक बजट प्रस्तुत करने का श्रेय प्राप्त है। उन्होंने कुल 10 बजट प्रस्तुत किये। वे एकमात्र ऐसे वित्तमंत्री थे जिन्हें वर्ष 1946 और 1968 को दो बार अपनी जन्मतिथि (29 फरवरी) को बजट प्रस्तुत करने का अवसर मिला।
          7. वर्ष 2017 के बजट के दौरान पहली बार दो परिवर्तन किये गए - पहला, यह फरवरी के अंतिम दिन के बजाय फरवरी के पहले दिन प्रस्तुत किया गया, और दूसरा, रेलवे बजट का केंद्रीय बजट में विलय किया गया।
          8. जवाहरलाल नेहरु, इंदिरा गाँधी और राजीव गाँधी ऐसे तीन प्रधानमंत्री हैं जिन्होंने अपने शासनकाल के दौरान बजट प्रस्तुत किये।
          9. डॉ. मनमोहन सिंह वर्ष 1991 में वित्तमंत्री बने और उन्होंने बजट प्रस्तुत किया जिसमें अर्थव्यवस्था को खुला किया गया, (जिसमें प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरसिम्हा राव का पूर्ण समर्थन था) विदेशी निवेश को प्रोत्साहित किया गया और चरम आयात शुल्क को 300 प्रतिशत से कम करके 50 प्रतिशत किया गया।
          10. वर्ष 1996-97 का अंतिम बजट आई. के. गुजराल के नेतृत्व वाली सरकार के वित्तमंत्री के रूप में श्री पी. चिदंबरम द्वारा प्रस्तुत किया गया था। परंतु यह सरकार गिरने वाली थी अतः बजट पारित करने के लिए संसद का विशेष अधिवेशन बुलाया गया था जिसमें बिना किसी बहस के बजट पारित किया गया था          ।
