        • 1. Defence and military – After its joint military exercises with Vietnam, Singapore and other countries in Southeast Asia, India and Indonesia have now decided to hold their first-ever joint air combat exercise soon. The two countries have also decided to deepen maritime security cooperation.
          2. Indian politics – The Maharashtra-based Shiv Sena has severed its ties with its long-standing ally BJP ahead of the BMC polls. Party Chief Uddhav Thackeray has called for a grand alliance of regional parties to take on national parties. A new trend seems to be developing in Indian politics.
          3. Constitution and law – After serving a show cause notice on a sitting judge of the Kolkata High Court for his corruption allegations on judges, the Supreme Court has summoned Justice Chinnasamy S. Karnan to be present in the SC on Feb. 13 to explain why he should not face contempt of court.
          4. Terrorism – A Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home has strongly criticized the government for its failure to prevent terrorist attacks on security installations after the Pathankot attack. The Committee said that the government seems to have learnt no lessons from the Pathankot attack.
          5. Education – Amidst questions being raised on the skills of students graduating from Indian universities to adapt to the evolving and changing world, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has now director all universities to ensure that the curriculum of each and every department is reviewed at least once every three years.
          6. Demonetisation – The RBI has decided to ease the cash withdrawal limits imposed post demonetization. Cash withdrawals up to Rs. 50,000 from savings bank accounts would be allowed from February 20, and all restrictions on cash withdrawals would be removed from March 13.
          7. Companies, products, services – If the proposed merger of Vodafone India Limited with Idea Cellular Ltd. goes through, Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumarmangalam Birla could head the merged entity.
          8. World politics – A strong critic of  H-1B temporary visa programme and immigration, Jeff Sessions would be the next US attorney general. India is closely watching the appointment amidst productive interactions with the new US administration.
          9. Indian politics – Uncertainty is looming large in Tamil Nadu politics after out-going Chief Minister O Panneedselvam revolted against the AIADMK party leadership. Battle lines are drawn in both factions of the party, with both claiming support of majority legislators. Governor Vidyasagar Rao’s decisions will be most important now.
          10.    Games and sports - India take on Bangladesh in their only Test match against the visitors at Hyderabad. Bangladesh is playing a Test match for the first time in India. Ace Indian spinner R. Ashwin, who is just two short of his 250 wickets in Test cricket would be eyeing to complete the feat in this Test.

        • 1. रक्षा और सेना - वियतनाम, सिंगापुर और अन्य दक्षिण-पूर्वी देशों के साथ अपने संयुक्त सैन्य अभ्यासों के बाद भारत और इंडोनेशिया ने शीघ्र हीअपना पहला संयुक्त वायुसेना युद्ध अभ्यास करने का निर्णय लिया है। इसीके साथ दोनों देशों ने परस्पर समुद्री सुरक्षा सहयोग बढाने का भी निर्णय लिया है।
          2. भारतीय राजनीति - मुंबई महानगरपालिका चुनावों से ठीक पहले शिव सेना ने भाजपा के साथ अपने लंबे समय से चले आ रहे गठबंधन संबंध तोड़ दिए हैं। पार्टी प्रमुख उद्धव ठाकरे ने राष्ट्रीय राजनीतिक दलों से मुकाबला करने के लिए एक क्षेत्रीय महागठबंधन का आह्वान किया है।इसके साथ ही भारतीय राजनीति में एक नई प्रवृत्ति के उदय की अटकलें लगाई जा रही हैं।
          3. संविधान और कानून - न्यायाधीशों पर भ्रष्टाचार के आरोप लगाने के कारण कोलकाता उच्च न्यायालय के एक विद्यमान न्यायाधीश के विरुद्ध कारण बताओ नोटिस जारी करने के बाद सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने न्यायमूर्ति चिन्नासामी एस. करणन को यह स्पष्ट करने के लिए 13 फरवरी को सर्वोच्च न्यायालय में उपस्थित रहने के लिए सम्मन जारी किया है कि उनके विरुद्ध न्यायालय की अवमानना की प्रक्रिया क्यों न शुरू की जाए।
          4. आतंकवाद - गृह मामलों पर संसद की एक स्थाई समिति ने पठानकोट आतंकी हमले के बाद सुरक्षा प्रतिष्ठानों पर आतंकवादी हमलों को रोकने में नाकाम रहने के लिए सरकार की कड़ी आलोचना की है। समिति ने कहा है कि ऐसा प्रतीत होता है कि सरकार ने पठानकोट हमले से कोई सीख नहीं ली है।
          5. शिक्षा - भारतीय विश्वविद्यालयों से स्नातक की पदवियां प्राप्त करने के बाद विद्यार्थियों के उभरती और बदलती व्यापारिक परिस्थितियों में स्वयं को ढालने के कौशल पर प्रश्न उठने के बीच विश्वविद्यालय अनुदान आयोग (यूजीसी) ने स्सभी विश्व विद्यालयों को निर्देश दिए हैं कि वे अपने सभी शिक्षा संकायों के पाठ्यक्रमों की समीक्षा प्रत्येक तीन वर्ष में कम से कम एक वार अवश्य करें।
          6. विमुद्रीकरण - विमुद्रीकरण के बाद बैंक खातों से नकद धनराशि के आहरण पर लगाए गए निर्बंधों को और अधिक शिथिल करने का निर्णय आरबीआई ने लिया है। इसके अनुसार 20 फरवरी से बचत खातों से 50,000 रुपये तक की राशि का आहरण किया जा सकेगा और 13 मार्च से नकद आहरण पर लगे सभी निर्बंध समाप्त किये जाएँगे।
          7. कंपनियां, उत्पाद, सेवाएँ - यदि वोडाफोन इंडिया ल्मितेद और आईडिया सेलुलर लिमिटेड की प्रस्तावित विलय प्रक्रिया पूर्ण हती है तो आदित्य बिरला समूह के अध्यक्ष कुमारमंगलम बिरला नई कंपनी का नेतृत्व कर सकते हैं।
          8. विश्व राजनीति - एच-1 बी अस्थाई वीजा कार्यक्रम और आप्रवासन के कठोर आलोचक जेफ सेशंस अमेरिका के नए महान्यायवादी होंगे। नए अमेरिकी प्रशासन के साथ उत्पादक बातचीत के बीच भारत इस नियुक्ति पर नजर बनाए हुए है।
          9. भारतीय राजनीति - निवर्तमान मुख्यमंत्री ओ पन्नीरसेल्वम द्वारा अन्ना द्रमुक नेतृत्व के विरुद्ध विद्रोह करने के बाद तमिलनाडु की राजनीति पर अनिश्चितता के बादल मंडरा रहे हैं। पार्टी के दोनों गुट अपनी-अपनी रणनीतिया बनाने में व्यस्त हैं और दोनों गुटसदन में बहुसंख्य विधायकों के समर्थन का दावा कर रहे हैं। आगे क्या निर्णय होता है इस बारे में सभी निगाहें राज्यपाल विद्यासागर राव पर लगी हुई हैं।
          10. क्रीडा और खेल - आज हैदराबाद में भारत बांग्लादेश के विरुद्ध अपना एकमात्र टेस्ट मैच खेलेगा। बांग्लादेश पहली बार भारत में टेस्ट मैच खेल रहा है। शीर्ष भारतीय स्पिन गेंदबाज आर. आश्विन, जो टेस्ट मैचों में 250 विकेट लेने के की उपलब्धि से केवल दो कदम दूर है, वर्तमान टेस्ट में ही यह उपलब्धि प्राप्त करने का प्रयास करेंगे।

        • 1. Nanotechnology is the study and application of very tiny things and can be used in all the other science fields. It works at the “Nano Level” i.e. a nanometer.
          2. The concept of nanoscience or nanotechnology started with the lecture “There is plenty of room at the bottom” by Physicist Richard Feynman in 1959. He was one of the sharpest minds in 20th century Physics.
          3. It incorporates both current work as well as concepts that are more advanced. And the developments span a whole range of industries.
          4. There are four generations of nanotechnology – (1) Passive nanostructures, (2) Active nanostructures, (3) Systems of nanosytems, and (4) Molecular nanosystems.
          5. An inch has 25,400,000 nanometers. The thickness of a normal sheet of paper is about 100,000 nanometers. This can help a layman understand the massive potential of these applications.
          6. If a marble is considered to be a nanometer then one meter would be equal to the size of the earth. Scientific applications that operate at the atomic level can fundamentally alter the working and concept of machines.
          7. Nanotechnology has the ability to see and control individual atoms and molecules. Thus, we can perhaps in the near future, programme individual “medicinal atoms (molecules)” to hit cancerous cells in a human body.
          8. Modern scientists and engineers are finding many ways to make materials at nanoscale to take advantage of their enhanced properties. So, a water-resistant surface or a dust-resistant surface can be created with huge potential applications.
          9. It is estimated over 800 nenotechnology products are publically available. Though not many use the term frequently.
          10. In the next century, the application of nanotechnology will be all-pervasive, all–over. The trends indicate the same.
        • 1. नैनो प्रौद्योगिकी अत्यंत सूक्ष्म वस्तुओं का अध्ययन और अनुप्रयोग है जिसका उपयोग विज्ञान के अन्य सभी क्षेत्रों में किया जा सकता है। ये ‘‘नेनोस्तर‘‘ अर्थात एक नैनौ मीटर के स्तर पर कार्य करती है।
          2. नैनो विज्ञान या नैनो प्रौद्योगिकी की परिकल्पना की शुरुआत रिचर्ड फेनमैन द्वारा वर्ष 1959 में दिए गए “तल में पर्याप्त स्थान उपलब्ध है” (There is plenty of room at the bottom) वे 20वीं सदी भौतिकी के सबसे तीक्ष्ण विचारकों में थे।
          3. नैनो प्रौद्योगिकी में विद्यमान कार्यों और अधिक उन्नत संकल्पनाएँ समाहित हैं। और इसके अनुप्रयोग उद्योगों की एक विस्तारित श्रृंखला को प्रभावित करते हैं।
          4. नैनो प्रौद्योगिकी की चार पीढियां हैं - (1) निष्क्रिय नैनो संरचनाएं,(2) सक्रिय नैनो संरचना, (3) नैनो प्रणालियों की प्रणालियाँ, और (4) आण्विक नैनो प्रणालियाँ।
          5. एक इंच में 25,400,000 नैनो मीटर होते हैं। एक सामान्य कागज की मोटाई लगभग 100,000 नैनो मीटर होती है। इसीसे एक सामान्य व्यक्ति नैनो तकनीक की जबरदस्त संभावनाऐं समझ सकता है।
          6. यदि एक कंचे को एक नैनो मीटर माना जाए तो एक मीटर पृथ्वी के आकार के बराबर होगा। ऐसे वैज्ञानिक अनुप्रयोग जो परमाणु स्तर पर कार्य करें वे मशीनों को मूलभूत स्तर पर परिवर्तित कर सकते हैं।
          7. नैनो प्रौद्योगिकी में व्यक्तिगत परमाणुओं और अणुओं को देखने और नियंत्रित करने की क्षमता होती है। अतः, शायद निकट भविष्य में, हम एक-एक "औषधीय परमाणु (अणु)" को ऐसे प्रोग्राम कर पाऐं कि वे मानव शरीर के केंसर कोशिकाओं पर हमला कर सकें।
          8. नैनो वैज्ञानिक और अभियंता नैनो पैमाने पर अनेक तरीकों से पदार्थ बनाने की खोज में लगे हैं ताकि उनके बढे हुए गुणों का लाभ लिया जा सके। अतः, एक जल-रोधी सतह या एक धूल-रोधी सतह बनाई जा सकती है जिसके बहुत से अनुप्रयोग हो सकत हैं।
          9. ऐसा अनुमान है कि लगभग 800 नैनो प्रौद्योगिकी उत्पाद सार्वजनिक रूप में उपलब्ध हैं। हालांकि इस पदनाम का उपयोग अनेक लोग नहीं करते।
          10. अगली सदी में, नैनो तकनीक के अनुप्रयोग सर्वत्र व्याप्त होंगे। आज के रूझान तो यही दिखाते हैं          ।
